I hit $125k (UK) at 35yo 4 years back. Felt good. Had increases since then but £ is so weak now its only about $110,000. Plus im almost 4 years older. Life is ok, 2 kids though drain resources heavily!

Work in IT for large multinational. im mid-manager level. Director level are $160k, VP $220,000, Exec $350,000+++. My CTO owns a number of small aircraft and lives in a $5m mansion in Arizona.

I'm a union tradie in the Bay area. You have to miss quite a bit of work to get under 100k a year. Completely serious and that is just the pay not including all the fringe benefits including our vacation check bonus and whatnot

I’ve made $100k or above last 3 financial years (im28) and honestly doesn’t feel like a whole lot, I live comfortable but I’m definately not some baller, mind you chit in Australia is expensive AF cost of living is pretty high in the suburbs so 100k per year Aud wouldn’t get you nearly as far as 100k in other countries would

Lots get there working extended hours, I’ve seen firefighters in my city make over 100k just in OT alone sickening. I’m near $150k total comp just putting in standard 40 hour weeks, this isn’t anything glamorous when Uncle Sam takes near 35% and CA col takes everything else.
Besides most coworkers, half my family is poverty with no education on unemployment right now, the other has advanced degrees from top prestigious schools raking in coin ($350k).

I’m in nyc. Unfortunately 100k per year really isn’t that much. The median income in some of the nicer neighborhoods like west village is 800k/year, no exaggeration

Pretty much everyone I went to university does because it is a rich fuk school with great job placement. I'm closing in on six figures and will arrive on my next position, but probably among the lowest of my fellow graduates.

UK bro so 6 figures GBP is a really high salary and very few people make that esp outside of the city. I make about £80k in a highly specialised engineering field and even that most people will never come close to. Median is like £27k or some ****.

I know higher ups in my company who make 100k+, my parents (doctors with 40 yr exp) and some of their friends, a couple of my friends in IB, otherwise no one lol.

Live near Bay Area so I don’t know anyone. Unless you count the bar tender at the local dive bar who’s a buddy.

I exceeded 200k when I was 25. Most people have 6 figure bonus grants even. Wouldn’t imagine pretending to cope on a 5 figure W2.

Is that a Contractor rate or as an employee? $55/hr is damn good, that would be General Foreman level around these parts

This is my setup right now with six years of experience, on the mangement side



The LOA alone is almost $29k a year tax free without working any days on top of a 10/4 rotation

No I'm making this thread to figure out how everyone on the misc makes six figures, but its rare to actually meet someone who makes that IRL around my age. I'd go as far as to say that even in my previous corporate job a lot of oldcels were making the same amount as me and we were nowhere near 100k.

That said I do think that hanging around people who make that amount would be a good influence.
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

Under 35 I know a few, but only one person outside of medicine. His dad owns a large company and he works for it. The only other people I know that make more than that barely do and live in SF or Silicon Valley and their salary is actually almost at the poverty line there even though they break 100k easily.

No one that I know in any other field has broken 100k by 35 in the southeast No joke.


Further, I grew up in an area where almost all of these people’s parents made at least $150k a year.

Contractor. The API 510 inspectors that come in for turnarounds may get paid anywhere from $50-$60 an hour plus their per diem. Advanced NDE techs doing Phased Array UT get paid the same or more.

Yeah NDE money is fukn good around here too. I'm not generally in refineries but am still on process piping in oil production plants, actually working on the Keystone XL pipeline right now


My company pays upwards of $130/hr for top level Project Controls and PM contractors

People are stupid though and think on very basic levels.

Salary is one component to wealth

Wealth is built when you take the money you have over at the end of each week / month and save and invest it

If your expenses are high, then you won't have much money left over even on $100k

So the real factor is, how much do you save, whilst living a relatively comfortable lifestyle?

Whilst I agree with everything you said about 100k being way more than enough, there are so many expenses that most people don't skip or maybe you didn't write them down.

ordering **** from amazon, probably several hundred dollars per month
household items add up pretty quickly too. tp, washing, cooking, new cupboard, table breaks so gotta get a new one, new TV every 3-5 years so 3k/3 = 1k a year, bath towels, bed sheets, new bed or mattress every 10 years but costs 5k. new laptop every couple of years.

healthcare - dentist, blood tests several times a year, life insurance
