I don't think it's quite that nothing in life matters as it is everything in life that he thought mattered (looks, money, fame/popularity etc...) don't. Never done ayahuasca but I've spent some time researching it. I'd imagine that for someone who's put that much mental and physical energy into those pursuits, to have been suddenly awakened to a new reality like that would be too much to process hence he's losing his shhit.

it’s ego death. same thing happened to me a few year back and I had pretty bad derealization for nearly half a year. the whole world felt like a movie, everything was fake. family, sex, drugs, etc. meant nothing because I realized I’m here because two individuals had sex with each other and put me in this world. nothing else. all that I do, all that I will ever accomplish means nothing.

the ego is most important part of human mental health. all of the most “successful” people; rich, famous, get boat loads of women, accomplished in academics, etc. have massive egos. if you don’t believe what you do matters at all, you won’t have motivation to do anything. that’s why religion exists. that’s why teens like love, happiness and sadness were created. they don’t mean jack ****.

the ego always comes back. you can’t live without it

Steroids do take their toll on you physically as mentally.

But Connor may know he's getting older and that frightens him, a lot of men who are getting older become scared / worried by it.

Also, a lot of people fall out of routine's because it becomes simply too much.
