Because the police would rather go after people for defending American people and businesses with their guns than the looters destroying them. If this goes on long enough, when the police suffer enough and finally get their priorities in order, maybe that will change.

I imagine there are lots of citizens who would love to take a role in defending the cities, but the lack of organization (stigma against militias and the like) and the way the police are always enforcing gun laws such that no one wants to go out with them, when push comes to shove, those police are on their own. Maybe once the police get their chit pushed in for long enough, the people can finally do what the 2nd amendment was always intended to allow them to do.

A portion of the population fail to understand that arrest occur months after riots. If these people think they've gotten away with it because they werent immediately caught, they are fools. Anyone with any sense knows that if they are not protecting their lives or their own personal property they will be prosecuted just like the looters.

Does a responsible gun owner want to rot in jail because they were protecting a doughnut shop? I think not

The law hates vigilante justice as much or more than it hates criminals. The law doesnt view them as helpers, it views them as criminals.

The 2A is the last resort. When the 1A and the constitutional checks and balances fail in spectacular manner, that's when the armed uprising begins. You can't unring that bell. You start shooting at government agents, there is no compromise or middle ground. Your life is forever changed, or ended.

2A supporters aren't going to jump in to every police altercation. That's not the point, nor would it be productive. But the government knows there are some lines it can't cross, because it exists.

And again, it doesn't help that so many people made it so hard to distinguish who the real threats are. Have the cops used much deadly force, in all of these cities? They seem like they're holding back, to me. As they should be.
