I’ll give you an example. For a long time the N word was used by both blacks and whites to indicate people that commit violent crimes and robberies. This is outlined in a Chris Rock bit below. I’m almost 40 and I still will meet people who think its ok to use the N word but typically only in the context of parts of the population that do things to hurt others around them. When this happens I tell them about this lady that was a customer where I worked coming in after Sunday church. She was very old and wearing a purple dress and a bonnet, very kind, very sweet. Whether you want to say it was her aura or you could sense the presence of God around her or sense she was a good person I don’t know exactly what it was but you could feel a calmness around her. This lady also happened to be African American. When I ask someone not to use that word its not for the sake of someone who hurts others its for the sake of her. Because regardless of how you feel about that word or segments of society she should not be included in something that would offend her this lady that could be anyones grandma.
