Depression, anti-bullying, technology, and being able to cope via social media.

People dont have to move as much for anything. Just think about shopping back in the day. If you wanted new shirts or jeans, you would literally set aside a day to physically move your body to a store to shop. Now you can lay on your couch and order everything from your phone.

Anti-bullying has stopped fat shaming. I am not advocating making fun of people for being fat but almost everyone I know that has lost significant weight has done it from an incident where someone hit a certain nerve that made them lose weight. I have even had incidents like that where my bodyfat has gotten too high.

Now people just go online after something like that to post how their feelings are hurt or make a body positive post to cope. They will get a ton of likes by other people that are coping and then they will cope with their feelings instead of dealing with their weight issues.

Cardio and body fat wise yes.

People aged poorly back then though. I watch a lot of movies from the 80s and it's insane how much older people in there 30s and 40s looked back then compared to now.

It's crazy to see the "fat guy" in movies back in the day. They are basically a dad bod now and wouldnt even be considered that fat by today's standards.
This is true, some claim we look younger for much longer now due to ''ascension'', idk about that though, but who knows

I still remember being baby sat as a kid, and the baby sitter wouldn't let me watch the incredible hulk! Don't believe it traumatized me, but for what ever reason I recall that.

I blame all the home delivery pizza places that became popular in the early 80s.

A few weeks back I was watching that Bruce Lee documentary on ESPN and they showed all of this footage of people just walking around 1960s Seattle and San Fran. Not a single fat person in sight. Every single man had a 32-inch waist.

Had the same realization when me and a buddy were looking at some old baseball footage of Nolan Ryan from 1980 (and 1979). Again...thin people across the board.

My personal take: The greatest trick that marketers every played on society was selling the notion that meals were supposed to be quick. From ancient times to the 1970s, dinner took AT MINIMUM an hour to prepare, and more routinely two hours. At least in terms of dinner. Nearly every meal was made from scratch. It would never occur to people that dinner shouldn't take a few hours erry day to make. It'd be an odd notion. It's like saying you should only brush your teeth for 6 seconds. At some point in the future we'll have toothbrushes that clean your teeth in 6 seconds and we will completely forget its supposed to take 2min or longer. And that social shift from meals being something you planned out in advance to being something you grab when you're hungry made all the difference in the world.

The only picture I've ever seen of one of my grandmothers, she looks like an 80-year old lady in the 1950s. Never connected until last year she was only 55. Also over Christmas, came across a newspaper clipping of her husband (my grandfather) and my uncle. It was when my GF was only a couple years older than I am now. I'm starting to look old, but he looks so much older...

Ive been saying the same thing for a while, any old footage from 70s or 80s everyone is so slim. The data supports it too. In the 70s obesity rate was only around 11-12%, now its 38%

Has to be diet and maybe chemical related.

genetics - no way only like 1-2 generations difference

exercise - theres some diference in activity level but most of those thin people werent athletes or even working out at all, diet is a way bigger factor.

food - something massively changed here in the eating habits of people. This is the main cause.

chemicals - we know test levels are constantly getting lower, we know estrogen like compounds are urinated out from birth control and in the drinking water, maybe something to do with this or something similar.

Well,

It is hard for the youth of America to develop a jawline when they are being BOMBARD with estrogenic chemicals in their food, water and air. The Argochemicals industry is spraying millions of tonnes of estrogenic chemicals in Americans food, water, air and environment.

Add a high sugar processed food diet, than it is game over,

Poor Jawline = Poor Hormonal Development = Endocrine distributors

It isn't difficult to understand what is happening to the men of America and the world.
