For the most part, yes. But, people should vary their rep ranges as part of their routine. 405x1 <> 315x8.

Agree.

"Your heart can only do so many repetitions before it breaks down."

Yeah, maybe you can overwork your heart just like you can overload your joints and tendons. But that is people doing longer distance running for multiple days a week. If your heart and lungs are in better condition then your heart doesn't have to beat as many times per minute so even if "you only get so many heartbeats" is true then being fit beats being sedentary.

Disagree 100% that no one cares irl that you lift. How I am treated by society at large is night and day. That said, the benefits you get for lifting mostly come in the first 1-2 years. When you're no long fat or rail thin, are able to fill out a shirt, have a nice chest and arms, etc. is what gets you the most attention
U wot m8? A good bulk is like 200-300 calories over maintenance. That's a fooking candy bar or a gas station sized bag of chips... You're over here like bulking automatically means 10k calories a day when it's by definition anything at all above maintenance...

And height cope is just that, cope. If you are losing out on girls it's not because of your height, it's because you lack confidence and use your height as an excuse. Some of the biggest slayers I've ever known have been manlets (IRL manlets, not just Misc standards) but the one thing they all had in common was an abundance of confidence.

This. The whole "science based training" and stuff are completely stupid. Even if you do everything scientifically perfect and let's say it adds 10% benefit to your gains, that would be about 1/2-1 lb of muscle per year. That isn't much. It still isn't going to put you above your natty limit.

I'd also say 99.99% of Youtube and IG fitness people are on the sauce

From what I posted earlier am a hard gainer/ectomorph/whatever BS terms. 200-300 cals above maintenance is basically lifting the same amount for months.

Even then, that’s still 3.5k-4K calories a day. Still a lot

I'd say unrealistic expectations from fitness personalities (youtube, insta etc) - most of them are genetically elite and/or on something.

The average person is not going to look like a fitness model even after years of training.

That said - everyone on planet earth can become a better version of themselves through lifting/diet. Even though I'll never win a bodybuilding competition or be on the cover of Men's Health, I 100% know that I look way better than if I'd never lifted or trained.

Also agree on the cardio - been running consistently for a decade now and it has done more for my health and wellbeing than anything. RHR in the 30s, low blood pressure, and I smoked for 15 years.

250 calories above your actual maintenance will give you a half pound gain per week. Round up to 300 to allow for changes in TDEE, and 6 months later BOOM, you've gained 12#. Slow and steady gains. I went the dreamer bulk route for a couple years because I didn't mind the excess BF and it suited my goals at the time. Now I'm fiddinta jump on the lean gain train with nutrition/training a lot more dialed in.

That being said if you find it difficult to eat 3,500 calories a day you are either trying to eat WAY too clean for a bulk phase or you have the appetite of a 12 year old girl.

My current maintenance cals are almost 3,500 and I chit 1×daily on average. Metamucil is your friend. If your protein intake was stupid high (ie: getting all your extra cals from protein) that could explain the discomfort. While cutting I kept protonz in the 200-250g range, but since I went up to maintenance I'm usually in the 180-200g range and fill the rest out with a fukkton of carbs.

These are not harsh truths. Problem is guys set false expectations for themselves; highly due to comparing themselves with other people. You workout, eat good, and that’s it.

Bulked up 16 lbs apparently ayyyy

Was just lost in details weighing food counting macros tracking bodyfat % etc.

Cringe now looking back but I did learn from it. Glad I was able to let go of the OCD approach and am making more progress now with a relaxed approach lmao.

Nothing wrong with your assertions for the most part except for the fact that they assume everyone is lifting for the same reasons.

When you say diet > lifting, that's highly dependent on the lifters reasons for lifting. If they're lifting with no end other than pure strength for example, well not so much.

When you assert that height and face trumps lifting, again you've made assumptions, which I'm guessing are that everyone lifts so that women will find them attractive maybe?

Anyway, if we assume that everyone who lifts is 16-30 and only lift for the opposite sex, then your assertions are pretty much spot on.

But there are a whole host of athletes (football, baseball, basketball, etc. and even powerlifting) who do not necessarily fit into the assumptions you've made.

Just curious, wondering if I should get a DEXA just for chits and giggles. She put me at 25% at 135 lbs with super potato pics. That was before I changed up my upper body workouts to recomp it. I've definitely made progress with it since then and I'm the same weight.
