Most of the music on our radio is american, we literally grow up singing american songs frlm childhood to adulthood. Thats also why its easier for british actors to do the american accent.

American just have a lot of strength behind them, so they are able to push their music to the masses

I would not say cool or not but they are the most dominant one for 2 reasons. First, media and secondly it is easily understandabl than other accents. As a plus also, when speaking to Americans , they are more forgiving than others when it comes to pronunciation and grammar.

Even rapping as well. Most British people can rap in an american accent because its heard so much. Its not about natural sounding, its about what you've been surrounded by so much
