agreed. I can't knock someone for wanting a professional to work on their car. For oil changes I don't have a lot of confidence in myself so usually when i'm rolling under a car I have a huge fear that the jack stands are going to slip because I didn't place them properly or the ramp will bend crushing me under the car.

more to the point, doing your own work on your car voids the warranty if its brand new.Something to take into consideration is, many people are renters living in an apartment and the vast majority of landlords don't allow their patrons to work on their cars in the parking lot.

When I do have to work on my car its quick fixes that I can start and complete in an hour or less (tires/oil change) and I do it on the weekend in the mornings where I know noone will be out to bitch and complain (nosey neighbors or the landlord himself).

Its really not that big of a deal, its just not. Cars are getting harder and harder to work on anyway due to electronics. and if you're stranded just pull up a youtube video to self diagnose and call AAA or whoever your insurance provider is and they'll send a tow truck. Besides, other than a tire blowout, virtually every other issue that strands you on the side of the road, you're gonna need road-side assistance anyway.

My jeep is easy to work on, it's a 2015. but my subaru I don't think I'll bother since it's new. I'd like to have service records for everything because I plan on getting rid of it in a couple years. So I will probably have subaru do all the oil changes and whatever other services.

How can you call yourself a man if you dont cast your own bullets? Which im guessing you dont. You can make the same statement about pretty much anything. Do you feel like a man for doing a brake job lmao ok.

This is kind of where I sit. I work on my exotics (service) myself because time vs money + focus on perfection is important.

LOL yep. I can tinker with parts all day, but i'm not electronically inclined at all. I'm too afraid to phuck something up. Now days even the god damn seat belt is connected to the car electronically and can be a determining factor in whether or not you pass emissions.

I shorted out the stupid box for the sensor in my car that detects when your keyfob is close by. Now it beeps endlessly with the fault. Even if you clear it it keeps doing it. I have to take my door panel back open to go fuk with it. I was a dumb ass and reconnected it while the battery was still hooked up. 99% of the time nothing happens but this box was fried.

If you've ever owned VW/Audi they are notorious for making their cars intentionally cumbersome to work on. They WANT you to take their cars to the dealership.

For example, I know for VW there is no drain or gauge for transmission fluid as its suppose to last the life of the car, but if you need to get it changed or filled up for whatever reason, the way you check the level and refill it is so convoluted and complex its simply laughable.

I pay someone to service my car because I don't have the time nor the patience. If it's easy though, I'm open to learning how to do it. It's expensive AF

lol. Anytime I buy a car (pre-owned crew) I plan on having to buy a filter wrench for the first oil change. I always leave the tag on it so that I can return it to the store, because I'll never need it again for that car.

Surprisingly, the last car I bought, i didn't need a filter wrench. Made sense after I remembered that the previous owners took it to a local independent shop for everything.
I enjoy changing oil myself, but anymore i don't do much else, other than small things like air filter and battery. i'm fortunate to have an independent mechanic with his own small shop. charges $60/hour and does good work. I usually bring my own parts.

Finally, whenever I buy tires, i get them at a place which offers lifetime balancing and rotation. yeah, you can get a good workout rotating them yourself, but when the inevitable "slight rumble" at highway speeds starts, it's nice to be able to take it in and throw them the keys, then later drive away with the car riding smooth again.

crown vic/jeep cherokee/silverados/mustangs crew, you can literally fix anything with these cars with a 100 dollar craftsman toolset and youtube video.

lol...family member with TDI Volkswagen, we were helping her change the fuel filter as you need to do frequently on all diesel vehicles. Turns out, you need a computer with VW computer software and a VW branded cable in order to prime the fuel system. I would've never fathomed such a thing.
