Are they ruptured or just bulging? Doctors are quick to recommend surgery because that's really all they can do and it's profitable. I'd talk to a physical therapist to get a second opinion! Steroidal injections can cause disc degeneration. Stem cell injections would be a better idea. I just went through this process OP. If they Are just bulged you do NOT need surgery

You dont NEED surgery. As long as you dont do much to further aggravate them, discs usually heal on their own within 6 months. Just youtube bulging/herniated disc exercises

Edit: Didnt read the whole thread but surgeons are cutters. And cutters gonna wanna cut. If the surgeon is any good, he'll advise you to wait some time to see if it gets any better or at least try some PT first.
