Individualism IMO encourages people to simply ignore their fellow person who may need temporary or long term psychological or physical support, because 'they should do in themselves', 'pull themselves up by their bootstraps', which just leaves them vulnerable.

I've even heard people who honestly try to argue that all a 90lbs soft hearted woman needs to defend herself when living alone is a gun, and then she can fight off a home invasion by a gang without needing to call for help. As if human beings don't have different temperaments, constitutions, and physiologies.

It's a ruthless social philosophy.
Exactly.

Fuk off. If western men had half the spine Iran did to hold their women in line our society wouldn’t be circling the drain

You kinda did imply Islamic culture when you said their nations run so well and are on a well defined path. Yeah, a path similar to North Koreas.

Obviously we're not going to go from worshipping gods to nothing in the space of 50 years and be ok. There will be a transition period, just like there is with any cultural shift.

Are you not seeing the return to spirituality, meditation becoming more popular and people realising that scrolling through IG is a path to an unhappy life? Doesn't mean we have to worship some pretend entity and take literally the words of a thousand year old book. It means enjoying each moment and living in the now, and taking care of one another.

Why should marriage be a sacred tradition? We could argue that men by nature are polygamous, but I can't be bothered to go down that route just now.

I agree that we should look for meaning beyond our own pleasures, but religion certainly isn't the answer, as history has shown us.
Yes that's precisely the problem.

I never said that. I said their punishments work well to keep people in line. Is that statement false?

Transition periods are usually a sign what it's building towards.

No I'm not. Even so that's still on an individual level. There is no common goal amongst us. Even businesses have a value proposition, they have a why, they have a purpose.

Because that's its purpose? That's like asking why any tradition should be sacred. Do you think the ceremony was intended to be for show? Do you not pledge your life to your partner in marriage? These things were never meant to be taken lightly.
