Just call em brah.

It’ll be a bitch to get someone in the line but once you get by the lowest level people and get someone with the ability to do something say you can see the discrepancy, and you’d be happy to pay the full amount you actually owe but want penalties and interest waived.

If you’re even a little charming they’ll probably waive it so long as you haven’t let the letter sit for a long time. If it’s the first notice I’d say 90% chance they’ll be chill.

You can get the penalties and interest reduced if you are lucky. You CANNOT get the tax reduced unless you submit an offer and compremise, which includes a complete audit of your assets.

You can get a monthly payment plan which automatically deducts with no interest penalties.

Good luck, as people on here have mentioned the IRS is completely inefficient, but they are very good at hitting a fly with a sledgehammer if you pop up on their radar.

Yeh and this should be compared against your gross earnings since tax burdens are what define gross vs net. So its like taking $10k out of $250k, about two week's worth. The penalties and interest suck though for sure, $2k down the drain for zero value added

Honestly your way is probably advisable, as it's low fee, diversified (at least by sector), and low maintenance set it & forget it. It's smart.

I do a combination -- I have a TD account that I pick stocks on which represents like 33% of my assets and is what I'm proudest of because I grew it over 90% in two years, and then a UBS account which are index / mutual funds and around 100k cash.

Mirin srs. great post. On spread. I am all in on etfs and mutual funds/ index funds. Might start playing around with individual stocks soon.
