What if instead of defunding the police we just passed a federal mandate re:no financial benefits allowed to accrue to the municipality?
What if they could only give you a jail sentence, community service, or donation to charity verified w/a receipt? As in you would have to pay a fine, but you could pay it to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, or the local food pantry, or whatever.
How many fewer police would the cities be hiring and how much less time would they put in to minor stuff like 5 or 10 mph over the speed limit, or "blocking a roadway"?

“Neither the Constitution, nor state law, impose a general duty upon police officers or other governmental officials to protect individual persons from harm — even when they know the harm will occur,” said Darren L. Hutchinson, a professor and associate dean at the University of Florida School of Law. “Police can watch someone attack you, refuse to intervene and not violate the Constitution.”
The last thing we need is a federal mandate. Police and sheriffs are local. Elect politicians and sheriffs who look to uphold the law and order rather than police the community. What if instead of giving the federal government more power people took responsibility for the politics within their own local community? I know, mind blowing revelation.

I’ve been pretty conflicted this year with all of the controversy around the police.
Maybe white privilege or because of charismamaxxing but the vast majority of my interactions with police have been positive. I can name exactly two instances were the cops where just being highly qualified douche nozzles but other than that all very professional interactions, even when I have been at fault tbh.
However this is a perfect example of everybody can do better.
#1 cop clearly is upset because the guy has tinted windows and he can’t see into the car well. Legally and generally you have a lower expectation of privacy when in a vehicle but the kid should have just kept the window cracked and calmly said he is scared, unarmed, and happy to exit car and then lock the door. It is a chit move to pull people out of cars and leave door open to be able to try and circumvent rules for searching vehicles due to “plain view”.
#2 AgRyan makes some fine points ITT, big issue with cops needlessly responding to calls that aren’t in their wheel house, really they shouldn’t even be wasting time writing parking tickets, leave that to a meter maid. However here, probably due to poor department culture and training, officer 1 needlessly escalated the stop.
#3 I get everybody’s fear from kid, to dad, to cops, it’s like you can cut the tension in the air in most places in the US with a knife rn and if we could all agree really hard to just act like normal, respectful folks who for the most part having a chit say, on any given day, and therefore chill out we could get along better.
TLDR: everybody could benefit from not being b-holes.

That cop should be fired. I don't care if he was 'having a bad day', police like that are an absolute stain and liability for police departments. Watching videos like this and it becomes clear why the USA has the highest incarceration rates in the world. Imagine if there was no bodycam footage. It would have gone to court the police word v alleged criminals word and 99% of the time the judge will side with the police. Pay police more and get rid of these power tripping thug police.

If it was about money, it's the worst guaranteed return on investment ever. Also, in any major metro area, you could just contract out to the Sheriff's Department and get worse service. How many cities do that? Only the small ones with less crime.
The vast majority of calls I respond to are quality of life calls. Does it need a cop? Not necessarily, but that's currently our job and role. Our department actually does a pretty good job, because we hire good officers. We spend in the upper amount of city budgets on the police department (high 30%) and bring in a lower amount (less than 10%) but that's because it's generally a good city with a few "rough" parts if you can even call it that. But we have a ton of community support compared to surrounding cities because we are legit better at what we do. The higher pay, training, etc help.
Every day we arrest multiple people who are beating their significant others and driving drunk. Or the tweaker who is breaking into cars to find something worthy of a trade to get his next fix before his high wears off. It's not just to bring in revenue. With the exception of drunk driving, all those arrests actually take away from city and county resources. If the people don't want it done, they wouldn't call, or would decrease our funding.

You don't want to force people into these things. He should not be a cop, but he should also not legally be required to enter a situation he's freaking out about with a gun, trying to help. It will make things worse, and endanger innocent lives.

That being said, I would 100% be in favor of what you're suggesting, because fees have gotten ridiculous. Court fees and state fees should be minimal. Punishment fees should absolutely fit the crime. Did you get a DUI? Volunteer at a DUI checkpoint or donate to MADD or something. Would totally make sense. I guarantee not a single officer on my department gives a single fuk about making money for the city when they're citing or arresting someone.

Police exist to enforce the laws and regulations your local politicians deem important, and largely accomplish this through revenue generation.
Worth noting- every single fine, fee, permit, tax or license issued by the municipality is only able to be issued due to police enforcement. Thus they're also responsible for all that revenue.
Police do not serve the community. They serve the politicians. Sherrifs in some cases do but not typically.
Sounds like you're an officer, so answer this. Who makes the laws and regulations you enforce? Is it your neighborhood or the local and state politicians? If someone doesn't pay their property taxes, who goes and makes sure your city/county gets that revenue? Is it your local tax collector?

Watched it without audio.
Allowed to remove from car.
Not allowed to stop on roadway.
Not allowed to interfere with stop.
Gathered from body language cop was fearful and put suspect between him and guy in truck.
Guy gets detained/arrested for previously mentioned infraction/crime.
Guy resists arrest.
Not seeing the tyranny. Just get your ticket and fight it in court. Also mind your business and dont interfere.
Cops can be petty but they're right. Theres missing/gapped footage as well.

First part I could say “ok, little punk was being an antagonist little sh*t” but the treatment his dad got? Legit felt like a comedy sketch like others have said.

Fuking LOL after coming back to this video again it became even more hilarious to me.
Did this guy really get arrested for rolling up his window? Haha. Bloatcel was definitely in shock when the cop approached him. Guy was probably thinking "is this real life?" The bloatcel was probably having an "I thought this was America?" South Park episode moment. Then after spraying the bloatcel on his bald head the cop makes sure to angle the pepper spray to make sure it hits right on the eyes.
JFL This is why I even tho i dont support blm I never been a bootlicker, because some cops definitely go on power trips. Imagine getting arrested for just standing around? I thought this was America wtf. Also havent cops been arresting people for ignoring covid procedures?

People do take responsibility for their own communities. That's why we have police departments. As for the Supreme Court... you absolutely do not want police to be legally bound to protect you. That's how you get to a totalitarian state. If they're legally required to protect you, they can do anything in the name of protection. It's an extremely slippery slope. That's the big issue.
The second issue, is think about the coward cop in Florida... do you want that idiot running in there? With a gun? Absolutely not. It will make the situation worse. You don't want to force people into these things. He should not be a cop, but he should also not legally be required to enter a situation he's freaking out about with a gun, trying to help. It will make things worse, and endanger innocent lives.
Something like 80% of the money made from a police department is from parking tickets. Police officers generally write... *checks parking cite book* 0 parking citations a year. That's from parking control officers. Blocking a roadway and speeding are state violations, so the state, and court, get most of the money. The city gets like... less than 5% of those fines, if that.
There's a lot wrong with policing nationwide. It's not a secret. I'm pretty open about faults in the system or when officers screw up. Just trying to provide a little insight because I see a ton of disinformation on this topic on here and social media. This type of dialogue is important. There will never be a solution if people from both sides don't talk and work to understand each other and come to a middle ground. More hate also doesn't do anyone good.

Its really that simple. You have no inherent right to stroll up into a scene and do whatever you want. You have been able to do it since the American right got cucked quite a bit but now with Trump supporters getting feisty and starting to clash with cops even that is about to change.

I used to back the blue until they started arresting small business owners for trying to feed their families
