1. Good News Bible-New Testament. (Translated from ancient Greek and Hebrew texts)

I've started The Fellowship of the Ring. I'm about 200 pages in. Its kinda rough lol the Tom Bombadil character is annoying.

I might start ready player 2 instead.

Always thought Tom Bombadil is the representation of God in Middle Earth. Most powerful character in the series but couldn't be bothered to actually intervene.

Interesting take. I always just though he was the embodiment of nature, in a way. All-powerful, but also indifferent to all the goings on.

I remember that the focal characters were discussing the possibility of Tom keeping the ring in his "region" as he was that powerful and untouchable. Oddly though, the Jackson movies totally omitted the character.

The LOTR trilogy is a "MUST READ" IMO.

[1] Bird Box by Josh Malerman - 4/5
This one has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while as this book was all the hype in one of our former threads. Luckily it didn't disappoint, so thanks boyos. It's thrilling, scary, at times funny and well written. Couldn't put the book down the last 50 pages when I went to bed a bit late, which resulted in a short night of sleep but it was definitely worth it. Watched the movie right after it as well and that was one big disappointed.

Currently reading The Wide Lens by Ron Adner, a book about innovation within ecosystems, and On The Shortness of Life by Seneca.

If anyone is aware of TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome), I am rereading The Great Pain Deception by Steve Ozanich. It's epic and a great read for anyone who has dealt with chronic pain.

In for year 3 (or 4? Idk)

Goal is 36 since I underperformed last year. But I already have 2 down.

Skyward and Starsight, by Brandon Sanderson. Started the year with some very light reading. They're pretty "YA". First one surprised me how good it was. I've only read the Mistborn series by Sanderson and they didn't impress me much. Second went downhill in a very cliche sequel way.

But I'm hoping book 3 is released soon and redeems the series.


Open to any fiction, classics, religion, philosophy, and self improvement recs. As always rotating reps out to the books crew.

The Importance of Being Ernest - Oscar Wilde - 7.5/10

A well written short story in play format about two guys with a bit of a mistaken identity crisis in pursuit of the women they love set in the old England Victorian era. Definitely a classic!

A Dog's Journey - Again, like the prequel, much better than the movie. In these first two books of 2021 it is even more clear that the mind does not need the Hollywood theatrics to enjoy what the author has written. If a subject or topic hits you, the read can be strong and powerful.


Next up: The Great Controversy by E.G. White. not my particular favorite writer but seems interesting. Original cover price of $11.95 USD on the shelf at Books-A-Million for .75 cents.

I haven't read Skyward, but I'd heartily recommend "The Reckoners" series by Sanderson. It's a YA take on the superhero genre and I enjoyed them a lot.

Still working on Evil Geniuses would recommend so far. Also recently started powering through Lose the Resume, Land the Job by Gary Burnison because I find that self help usually can give me a nice pick me up, and COVID has made my usual way of picking up clients and job offers to keep in pocket all but nonexistent.

Should finish by tomorrow and will update after I decide how I feel about it.

Any of ya’ll ever find some books are better taken as more of a reference, rather than once piece? Ex: I couldn’t really sit down and enjoy Meditations by MA, but I love to just grab it every now and then to read a few pages and then think on them.

Just finished Get rich with dividends by Marc Litctenfeld. Good book. I'd pair it with "How to retire with dividends" by brett owens and tom jacobs and "Dividend Growth Machine" by Nathan Winklepeck if you could read 3 book about learning about dividends

** I read this while simultaneously listening to an older Reacher novel which may have negatively impacted my enjoyment of this book, but perhaps not because I'm really enjoying the audio book (61 hours). This was Child's first novel written with his brother Andrew, and in my opinion, they're not off to a great start.
