Long story short I've been a Manchester United fan since I was 10 years old and used to be mad obsessed with footy, however I ended up losing interest in football altogether for years and now only recently got back into it.

I've pretty much lost passion for Man Utd and I get more excited watching my local team, Leeds United. There's also a big historic rivalry between the two clubs which makes it more awkward. Leeds fans especially hate Man Utd and call them scum.


I mean I can't really be called a glory supporter since Leeds haven't had any glory for years and only got promoted to the Premier league this season for the first time in 16 years.

What you think? I know most of the misc doesn't watch English football but I'm sure there's similar instances in American football.

Alot of English football fans say you should always support your local club but when I was at school all the kids supported the big teams like Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc so I got sucked into it

Not many kids support there local teams who's not that good or in lower divisions infact it's quite common with adults here aswell tbh.

this is my opinion and you don't need to agree with this, but as soon as you talk about changing or "choosing" a team you support you'll never experience true love for a club

I was born in a city where there are multiple clubs, but my family already was 2 generations of die-hard supporters for one specific team (my grandfather lived closeby and was friends with a lot of the players in the 40s-50s)

so this became my team, I didn't choose this

this is just how it goes, if you missed out on this I'm sorry but you'll never experience indefinite love for a club

I absolutely can't stand people from across the country with no affiliation to MY city that come and "support" MY club from MY city, gtfo tourists

I think this is why I consider myself a “follower” and not a “supporter” per say. I follow Leeds United matches and results, but I’ve never been to Leeds England and have no ties to the club. I started following Leeds because I’m from a US city that borrowed the name. (We also have a Birmingham, but I don’t like them much, in the US lol)

yeah there's nothing wrong with that as long as you're aware you're not a "supporter"

it's really the exception to be born into a strong football minded family like I did, for a local team that's not a top team but it has it's place in the top 2 leagues at all time

I know the majority of people don't fit into that category

but when it comes to "support your local team" I'm really an elitist (at least I'm aware of this lol)
