I think total interest should be capped at 100% of the loan. And payments should not involuntarily exceed 10% of income, and people should be forgiven at age 65, and lenders should see students grades, classes, and age only and be allowed to not grant more loans to someone. The school kind of already does that though.

That is actually believable. But no republican will vote for it, and it only takes one democrat to break ranks. I think it won't happen in the next 2 years.

Overpayment by the VA has or had to be paid back. No one should be making money from the tuition directly.

Any grants obviously just go in your pocket.

If this were in fact true, which it's not, I'd be absolutely pissed. In 2010 when I graduated undergrad, I took a job making $55,700 per year. I had $130,000 in student loans and told myself that I'd be damned if I carried this burden around with me into my 30s and 40s. I found a super cheap living arrangement (which in coastal CA is extremely difficult) and budgeted every single dollar of my income. Fortunately, I was able to earn some promotions along the way which helped grow my income and in short was able to throw around $30,000 per year at that debt. I sacrificed a ton during those years as I watched other friends (including those that didn't go to college) and classmates buy new BMWs, live in sweet apartments/condos, and spend $300+ every weekend at restaurants and bars. Fast forward seven years later, I started a part-time MBA program and paid $110,000 out of pocket over three years so that I could avoid taking on more student loans. Forgiving student loans is a slap in the face to people like me who didn't start off rich but instead worked hard and prioritized my finances so I could now enjoy financial freedom. The opportunity cost of that $240,000 invested in the market ETFs would no doubt be worth nearly $1 million today. **** the dems and their socialist agenda. **** em all.

Same. Not just loans but many other things. I have to watch the government and predict what they will find or allow or else I might be on the short end of several issues.

Yep. Anyone with a Pell grant who majors in gender studies is feeding that cr*p and making you pay for it.

Those classes should not count towards semester financial aid requirements, and unit taken should have a per unit charge. This is politics.

I don't like targeted charity when there is no basis beyond lip service. Biden's government needs to acquire evidence of wealth in these targeted cases and basis for why they deserve this charity from everyone else. It is one thing to give your own money to a 'go fund me' it is another thing to demand my tax payments go to these cases.
Agreed. We need to spend more on medical technology and less on cash handouts. Medical technology is improving slowly.

Cool, so this (in theory cause lol at "one time")is the start of government funded higher education....great, now there's no limit on how high tuition can get, cause the gobment will pay for it......so up goes the taxes again.

Same reason I don't want universal healthcare.

Someone aware me on when this will pass
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

It wouldn't have to be over if people like you didn't create, and cheer for categorically failed policies.

The current loan forgiveness program is only for teachers and public servants with a list of caveats. LOL @ miscers assuming it's all across the board.

They'll dangle this carrot all the way until the next election and probably still wouldn't go through with it.
