this is another thing that got to me. It's funny how businesses are there to make money. Being greedy is the name of the game. They will tell you that to your face and expect you to fall in line or else you are gone. However when it comes to any amount of incentives or rewards there are none if you are the one busting your ass day in and day out. The handouts tend to go to the people who get in good with the gatekeepers, so to speak. Working hard and making them look good is not how you get in good with them. Just the contradictory nature of it all.

Dealing with people and not getting what I feel I deserved. Instead I got negativity and misfortune all too often. I kept pushing though after every set back, getting more qualifications, and maneuvering where I could, trying different positions, workplaces and roles. The camel's back was broken and then re-broken. Fortunately I saved well and kept investing to let myself be in a position I don't need to tolerate the stresses of work and not having to go back.

You're way better off channeling that energy towards thinking about how to make money in other ways than worrying about something that's not likely to materialize no matter what you do imo.
Mostly this.

There have been work/business things that I want to do because I just want to. The work appeals to me, or the potential satisfaction of improving a process/making life a little better/helping someone.

Financially I really just wanted to do as well as my dad did; solidly middle class, homeowner, a vacation now and then, and retirement/pension. I enjoy high quality things and would like to be relatively unconstrained w/spending, but that is a "would be nice" thing more than a "must have".
