There's videos where police ask to search the car and then plant drugs. That's one reason. Make one move like getting out of the car and they might also try to shoot you for funsies.

Rewatching that the driver played that extremely smart. Made sure his hands were visible at all times so the cop couldn't murder him in cold blood

He disobeyed a lawful order. He had to get out of the car. He even refused to let the cop open the door for him. They were not gonna shoot him at that point.

It's not your place to decide whether or not you should obey a lawful order from a police officer.

If they have a reason to ask you to get out of the car, you get out of the car.

There could be 1 million reasons for the officers to be asking you to do that.

Why is it that minorities are always making this harder, and escalating these situations?

Miscers are the most contradictory internet users you'll ever find. When it comes to cops their so irrational that everything boils down to "just comply bro" no matter the circumstances

Does anyone here have a video where the person actually complies and the cop still mistreated them?

The one cop sounded like an overly aggressive douche, but it would have been much easier and safer if the guy just got out of the car and sued later.

I'm white/asian and the son of the cop and my dad had the same talk with me. It's just good parenting. Although, my talk was basically "If you get pulled over, listen to whatever the police officer says, keep your hands on the wheel, keys on the dash, turn on the dome light, etc". Not "If they pull you over they are literally trying to murder you. You did nothing wrong. They're just racists". One speech leads to countless police encounters without any issue. The other leads to constant issues.

What is wrong with that? Compliance with cops is extremely important and non-compliance is how 99.99% of use of force encounters happen. If your rights are being violated, you can sue later and get rich, and the PD will have to turn over the body cam footage. Most cities will pay out even on BS cases in order to avoid the scandal aspect.

There are definitely videos of guys being mostly chill and the cop being a douche, cops can be douches, but it's definitely a rarity.
jKqrkutube]
Cop is at fault on this one, 100%. Cop is trigger happy and apparently very afraid of dying.

but still the driver should have told the cop his license was in the car and he would have to get it. Police have been killed by routine traffic stops when drivers reach in the car and pull out firearms.

Yes that video the cop is at the wrong. But still could have been avoided if the driver didn't do sudden movements and just explained things before doing it.

Shooting could have been avoided if driver just said , "Okay officer, but my license is in the vehicle, I would have to go grab it" then the cop would be calmer.

But the cop asked the guy for his license as he's going into the gas station. There was no tense situation, and all he did was comply with what the cops asked of him.

It's not up to civilians to play chess with their lives, and guess what move will not set off an officer. And situations like this aren't the norm, so I don't get protecting the few cops who are ****ing up. Maybe he had a bad day, I don't know. But when you're wielding a deadly weapon, better judgement needs to be exercised.

100%, cop was in the wrong. I said up there, he was in the wrong and is trigger happy and too scared to be a cop.

I just added in the bit about what the driver could have done... because it's common sense.

It's like defensive driving. When you drive, you assume every car out there is being driven by an idiot, and you have to protect yourself. For example, if you are at an intersection, and then you get a green light, and you see a car coming towards you, on your left, down the road to your intersection... and that car was given the red light, you don't just assume they are gonna stop. You don't daydream while you drive down the road, just because "well the light was green."... no... you assume the other car is an idiot, and wait until you see them slowing down before you hit the gas and go into the intersection.

That's how you avoid accidents.

In a similar fashion, just assume every cop needs to feel secure and safe, so don't make sudden movements, and if you have to reach into the car to get something, always tell them beforehand so they know.

This is how you avoid shootings.

I'm not saying the cop was in the right, I'm saying people need to use better common sense.

These questions are resolved in a timely manner in a court room, after the fact.

But during the incident, occupant is, by law, required to obey lawful orders from a police officer. Even if you assume they have no probable cause, you have no qualifications nor authority to argue that during the traffic stop. That is done in a court room.

And the problem with that is escalating a situation that didn't need to be escalated. All over a license plate. And in this case the defendant wins.

Most of the times it's the criminals that have been through the system and have lots of police interactions that know the most about their rights compared to the college educated guy that took some criminal justice / law classes.

For people reading,if an officer tells you to do something, you generally have to do it. Pay attention to when they ask something "You have anything illegal on you? Do you mind if I check?" or "Do you mind getting out of the car?" vs tell you something "Get out of the car". You can exercise your rights for the questions, not for the commands. Not following the commands just escalates the situation for everyone, and actually gives the cop more "ammo" to escalate the detention. You also aren't immediately entitled to the reason for the stop. The report will read something like "During my traffic stop, miscer1 continued to move around in his vehicle despite my commands to keep his hands on his steering wheel. Due to this, I commanded miscer1 to step out of the vehicle so I could continue with the citation process. Miscer1 continued to refuse to get out of the vehicle, and continued to move his hands around in his vehicle.... blah blah blah"
The cop told him to keep his hands visible at all times. For him to get out of the car he would have had to undo his seat belt and open the door, both actions which would have made at least one of his hands not visible.

Yes it does, Pal. He had ample opportunity to comply. He literally ignored their requests about a half dozen times. Just because their requests were in an extremely rude manner, doesn’t mean they aren’t valid. Again, for context, this is after he drove for 1:40 with their lights on behind him. He’s a victim-playing, race baiting pos that’s looking for a handout.

nonsense, as the cops in the video of OP, tried to open the door for him and do exactly that, without even being asked. Unfortunately, the driver escalated even further and kept the door closed with his elbow.
