For the record, I do think the stance of Mayor Wheeler on crime is weak. I think the city is headed in the wrong direction. But it isn't as bad as people make it out to be in the media. I see people posting on here from Illinois, Florida, and Michigan. Your states have cities with far more severe crime problems. I'll also point out almost every major city in America has seen an increase in crime, with Portland perhaps having a greater increase than norm due to the additional political unrest.

Also, you are all assuming the crime increases are due entirely to government policy, and not more obvious issues, such as political unrest or economic struggles due to covid.

That is among the findings of a recent report on the change in rental activity in major cities this year. Among other things, it found that more people left Portland in 2020 than moved into the city, and that most of them were millennials with an average age of 29.

I'm an oregon brah, born in OR and lived in the pac NW a good chunk of my life. Portland/Seattle are absolute cess pools, they even put San Fran to shame
