If anything, it helped me cut back significantly because I had to be the responsible one. But I shouldn't have to take care of you because you can't even remember your name by the end of the night, every single night. It was straight psychotic trailer park drinking.

Yeah bro I know exactly what you mean, probably. It’s awful. Being ashamed of it and feeling like chit all the time makes it worse. Like why the fuk does my brain make me like this. I literally gain pleasure living vicariously through normal people

one or two points in my life I definitely abused alcohol pretty hard but I drink pretty responsible it doesn't even bring me that much pleasure or enjoyment plus desire to be healthy and have a good physique makes it pretty easy for me not to PLUS cannabis is legal where I am so I would choose that every single time over alcohol and to be honest since legalization my usage has cut down to virtual zero I would say if you can live a happy and successful life free of vices you truly made it despite celebrating or maybe relaxing after a long day most substances are PURE cope and thats where the abuse comes in since you GOTTA keep reinforcing the cope with more substance because it wears off SRS
If you just invest into yourself to make your life better you will virtually not touch anything SRS.

I would also suggest swapping booze for cannabis completely NOT as a way to get messed up and numb the pain but a way to transition away from a substance that hurts you pretty badly physically to one much more gentle and hopefully you will feel better as a result and as that happens you won't feel the need to smoke or drink anymore and try to stick with vape or edibles I wouldn't suggest anybody smoke cannabis because that is really not that healthy at all.

You are lying to yourself.
You make the decision to drink long before you go to the gas station. ****, long before you get in your car.
Pretending this is some type of magic warp in time is simply a transparent and obvious attempt at deflecting accountability and responsibility.
That being said, alcoholism (and addiction in general) is literal insanity.
People drink alcohol and use drugs long after what most people would consider a rock bottom. They are not ignorant about the negative consequences of their behavior, they feel it. At least until the next chemically induced dopamine rush.
Fat people know they are fat and they hate themselves for it.
Alcoholics know and understand they are self destructive to the point of indirect suicidal behavior, but the insanity helps us ignore it.
Denial is both one of the best and worst natural human tendencies that we exhibit as a species on a regular basis.
So stop being in denial and lying to yourself.
You choose to drink long before you get in the car to go get a drink. This is not an opinion or speculation. You will agree after being exposed to wording.
I appreciate simplicity. So make it simple. When you get in your car, say one of these two things out loud....
“I choosing to go get alcoholic beverages to drink”.
“I am choosing to not get an alcoholic beverage”.
Then do that thing.
If you say the second phrase, but then pretend to be in some type of delusional autonomous uncontrollable state, and find yourself in a gas station cooler, or swiping your card, say it again.
I am choosing to drink. I don’t have to. I could not do this right now. I am making the decision to do it. Because you are. And denying that is lying to yourself.
I strongly support you and your process towards sobriety, but it is your process, or lack of.
Be real with yourself bro.
You don’t black out at the gas station and you don’t black out the multiple hours before hand when you make the decision to do it.
Accept responsibility.
Personally I am much more forgiving and accepting of people who accept responsibility but still fail to meet whatever standard, than those who pretend meeting that standard was beyond their conscious decision making process.
My opinion doesn’t matter. I don’t matter. I hope this message does matter. It is not my message. It is a message.
Do with it what you will.

People seem to be relatively tolerant as long as you manage your behavior to a decent degree
I also can’t seem to be sober around my family. It’s sad and a huge source of pain.
