We have not found the wild type lineages that covid likely evolved from. We have found some close relatives. For most extant viruses, we have no way of knowing which lineage they actually evolved from. We do not have anywhere close to a complete map of the active viruses on Earth.

And I've also never known a person to die from the flu or even hospitalized form the flu but my brother in law was hospitalized and needed an oxygen mask and I had relatives die from getting covid.
