I left taxafornia for Pacific Northwest several years ago, I was commuting to SD for work pre rona, yes it’s probably the only place I’d live in CA, perfect weather, nice ocean temps, but I can’t afford close to what I have in Oregon if I were to relocate (yet)

By far yes.
I also want to re iterate you need money.
If I couldn’t get into the ibew here and we didn’t have a lot of work I would’ve left San Diego.
My local just re did their CBA and by the end of next year union sparkies will be making 55/$hr on the check and then by the end of the 5 years , a little less than 62/$hr on the check …. that means not including bennies
That’s barely middle class here , it might be upper lower class by that time depending on what the real estate market does but there’s always OT and 62/$hr will be pretty decent for someone with no degree in San Diego who’s single so my career outlook is good
I also don’t have to worry about my pension and great healthcare , that’s paid for so it’s not as low as it sounds really.
The pay is increasing so much from our current journeyman wage because we’re actually gaining a lot of market share and the new BA is a doing a good job and changing the problems in our
Local.
Yeah , salaries typically pay average or below average here but with almost all white collar people being able to work remote now we’re seeing a unbelievable influx of people.
My commute went from 40 minutes from Carlsbad/north county at 3:30 to 80 minutes at 2pm in less than a year just to get back to the main city / central area.
Amazing city if you can find that decent paying career or you’re a trust fund baby.
Everyone’s a moderate here politically. I’d say overall very libertarian but not sjw/ communist liberal. Live and let live but don’t tread on me.
You’ll find more areas are more traditional conservative than not once you get out of downtown and Hillcrest mainly.
As a tradie , I wouldn’t be living here if it wasn’t for the electricians union. Gotta pay to play. Probably never leaving now though.

Hope you’re living on campus , if not RIP boyo.
I make okay money as a tradie apprentice , especially with overtime but I don’t know how all the retail/ burgerflipper/cashiercels survive here if no help from parents.
They have to be working a second job in Hillcrest or something lol.
