The 2 viruses were isolated. I originally misread that part as a transfection experiment. I had assumed they wanted to see cytotoxic effects in human cells. They didn't. It was an infectivity experiment. I admitted I didn't read it carefully enough and apologized. You, on the other hand, now refuse to admit where you were wrong. You owe an apology to Dr. Fauci, not to me. It's defamation like yours that radicalizes the public.

I contend that even if they didn't infect humans, it wouldn't have met the criteria of GOF or at least GOF of concern by the definitions we saw.

We were using two different definitions of transmissibility. I was talking about transmissibility between individuals of the same species. You were talking about it more broadly, in the context of host tropism.

Yeah I made the mistake of just assuming you were wrong. When I bothered to actually see what you were saying I realized that their statement of infecting cells wasn't a misstatement. They meant what they said.

BACs cannot infect people. They'd need to be transfected into the cells. The isolated viruses they got after transfection and replication could, theoretically. Actually, they didn't even establish that they can infect people. What they established was that the isolated viruses can infect human cells exhibiting ACE2. We do not know if the hybrid viruses they created could survive externally and bind. There is a difference between in situ infectiveness of a human cell culture and in vivo infectiveness of a human organism.

There are two definitions of transmissiblity -- one that includes host tropism and one that doesn't. This is why rigorous definitions matter.

There is no rigorous definition of gain of function research. There is one for gain of function research of concern. The work done at WIV was not gain of function research of concern.

You need to specify which definition you are using for GoF and transmissibility. Not specifying the definition and then mocking someone for being unclear what you are talking about is pretty laughable. The entire argument rested on semantically parsing the definitions of these terms, so I specifically asked you multiple times to provide the definition you were using. You don't seem to understand how rigorous arguments work, and I don't fault you because you're an engineer who has never had to mathematically prove anything in his life.
