I suffer from it and I can't just snap out of it, but I have periods of time where I do, and when I do I'm killing it every day. Seems like it doesn't take much to set me back. It makes me want to get on some treatments but I just don't want to go down that road of medications. I'm kind of in a slump now and it really sucks.

What would your life be like if depression was mostly a distant memory though?

Sometimes medication is the answer.

This is a physical illness first and foremost that manifests itself mentally/emotionally/spiritually/etc

In addition to pharmacological treatment, drink the kool aid on psycho-therapeutic interventions. Whatever gets you through this in a healthy way is all that matters until you're back to a state of mind where you can smirk, shake your head and laugh at how silly some of these treatments seem. But hey, if they helped you reach that good point again then so be it!

All that matters is that you find a healthy way to get better.

Your survival is at stake here.
Thanks bro. Dropped you a PM. It's obvious from your post that you really get this. I appreciate a lot of the posts in this thread and, as you say, people are well meaning but unfortunately I do think this is something that you have to have been through personally to truly get it. Depression is a netherworld and is not fathomable to most people. As I mentioned the term itself is misleading because it's also used to describe just feeling ordinarily unhappy with life whereas it's something much more analogous to excruciating pain than to a negative outlook, except it's a pain that also strips away any desire to be alive and any motivation or ability to do things that may actually help.

I think if anybody was masochistic enough to know how it truly feels then they could try binging on E and coca cola for a week straight and then see how they feel at the end of it when every drop of serotonin and dopamine is gone.

Not to deny the fact that you're suffering but this just isn't the type of depression I'm talking about. I'm talking about depression that would be no better even in a perfect world.

This is the problem, the term 'depression' is way too all encompassing and ends up trivialising a really serious illness.

Get yourself on carnivore diet ASAP. It’s the way to solve chemical depression.
Remember the guy that gave up? Neither does anybody else.

The first thing I would do is look at your diet and get rid of any potential allergens and intolerances. Processed foods with additives and crap, grains, possibly nightshades, dairy, even eggs are possible to cause issues.
And even vegetables for that matter, due to gut irritation or them being lathered with pesticides and other chemicals

Good luck everyone.
THIS. Your gut and brain are interconnected.

You don’t need a test either. Try an elimination diet. Since cutting out ALL grains, I’ve never felt better

I eat meats, dairy, fruits. Whenever I eat grains of any kind, I notice a massive difference in my mental state and energy levels.
