Objectively being that old will suck but subjectively we don't feel the upwards or downwards trajectory of our lives from day to day. Each day will feel about the same as the one before.
Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.

Yeah
Getting sick in the past year and thinking I was gonna die has made me think about what it would be like
especially if you get some scary cognitive disease where you cant remember sht or string words together..
But if he made it to 94.. thats good enough.
at that point, id want them to just pull the plug on me.

I have one left. He's doing OK, but he's to the age where he could pass at any time and it wouldn't be a surprise.

I mean, I know we all don't get out alive, and dwelling on it is a good way to rope, but as the stoics said, I think we do need to ponder our mortality from time to time

Well, the older you get the older you want to be. Besides, old is 15 years older than you are so you never get old. Immortality is possible for as long as people remember you, so be memorable to as many people as you can. I play traditional Irish Music. A lot of us are older (50's-80's) with the oldest of us right around 90. There are a lot of younger folk's in their 20's-40's who are learning the craft and taking our place and a fair number of the very young who are surprisingly good. I'm always surprised at the mental acuity of the older musicians. Sure, the body weakens and eventually fails but most are still sharp as a tack until the end.
For myself in my 60's I keep mentally young by playing music and by making friends with 20 somethings. I've managed to cultivate a dozen, great relationships with young people from all over. I find their views fascinating and they seem to get a kick out of me. I'm not judgmental, just a trusted advisor and a funny old coot with a few good stories to share. It's fun.
