There's no need for monogamy when it comes to cigars. Smoke everything that won't smoke you first and have fun trying to remember what you liked. There are some great suggestions already here. To add, I'm loving the San Cristobal Elegancia, nearly anything from Rocky Patel, Undercrown Maduro is amazing right now, and Fuente Don Carlos. Apart from the Opus X, I don't think any of the other Fuentes are special.

There are no additives in a cigar. The leaf and wrappers are all the flavor. Your disdain towards their taste may be more related to not smoking them properly or picking harsher cigars with stronger flavors. Or simply just don't have an affinity to it.

In my opinion, machine-rolled cigars are more akin to cigarettes than they are to hand-rolled cigars.

I didn't know that.

I have smoked both but didn't know that at the time.

I know a "real" cigar takes a long time to burn and so that makes sense.

However, I have enjoyed pipe tobacco and some cigarettes for the flavor. Typically, these are foreign cigs not what we have in the US.

My definition of tobacco smells like raisins or some kind of high quality fruit cake.

I don't consider any kid of food or art "bad" because I don't like it, but cigars do not taste great to me. Ones that are okay last too long to enjoy, so I don't get it.

But, I'm always curious about why people like something I don't.

One of the cool things about cigars is they're differentiated not only by the filler and wrapper tobacco, but also by their size and shape. Something like a Churchill is going to burn a lot longer than a Robusto just due to the size.



I mentioned earlier that my favorite cigar is an Oliva Melanio Serie V. I always get the Tor**** version, but that same cigar comes in a variety of sizes:



Long story short, if someone is new to cigars it's good to experiment not only with different brands, but also with different sizes

just back from havana, all the casa's dont have much stock was able to bring back 10 boxes, found a Og box of behike 52s, i was down when they were released and we were paying 250 for a box of 10. Almost $1200 now, prices have gone through the roof. People would laugh when i asked for any cohibas other than the low end regular production stuff. Everything was out of stock. I dont know how you US bros smoke the non cuban stuff, other than some of the fuentes, davidoffs 1000s series and a couple of other stuff.

Prices in canada are nuts too +$60 for a decent single and the casa de habanos in montreal is closed now

I know cubans arent "ALLOWED" in the us but USA is the biggest consumer of cuban cigars lol, i used to ship cigars to Florida all the time. Bringing cigars into Canada is worse than the US. There used to be some big time resellers on misc maybe 10 years ago, everyone is gone, we used to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of stock from Zurich and Portugal and ship them from there. Everyone moved to private groups on FB and reddit

LMAO that's 5x-10x the price of good cigars in the US. Cubans are hyped due to their unavailability, but I think plenty of the high quality Nicaraguan/Dominican cigars can go toe to toe with Cubans.

I'll be in Cozumel in about two weeks though so I'll definitely try to scout out some Cubans while I'm down there. Any specific Cuban cigars you'd recommend I look for?

thats why i buy my stuff in cuba or europe, no cigar guy buys local cuz of canada taxes.

Stick to simple stuff and only buy at the CASA de habanos, most cigars are fake in cozumel, only casa has real stuff

My point is that they aren't sitting on shelves. Can't just go to the corner store or cigar bar and buy them.

A lot of the mass produced cigars are rolled in paper instead of tobacco, as well.
