People are "allowed" to travel at any time, but it's still stupid for a small woman to travel at 4am on a subway.

Even I don't take the subway anytime past 8/9pm. It gets a lot more dangerous.

I've taken subway systems on 3 continents. NYC is the only one I've seen homeless people taking a chit on the ground in the stations, drunk sloots falling out of their seats onto the ground and I'm the only one who tries to help them because I'm not a local. I'm surprised this isn't happening every other day.

4AM on the NYC subway is really not a big deal. The city is so populated that there are always people on the subways, including police. A lot of people also work / head to work on the subways at that time
