Havent read this stupid thread but humans aren’t the only ones who are. Many species of animals keep packs of women as their own and fight to defend them and their status.

Edit: I think humans still have this instinct but also discovered having a consistent monogamous relationship is better long term for survival. It allowed for multiple men to work together without trying to constantly trying to kill each other over women.

add to that the human baby requires a huge amount of time, resources, and care compared to other mammals. so its doubly important
