Getting into a fight can be life threatening but you wouldn't want to keel the other person because they can throw hands better than you.

Is there an alternative that wouldn’t be then but would still be good enough for defense?

I wouldn’t want something that’s got heavy recoil either

But all I currently have is a 9mm and it’s a Taurus slim

Speak for yourself. I have a family, kids and a great life. Obviously I'm not gonna pull a gun for a little physical altercation, but if I'm in a situation where I feel my life is in danger, when it's them or me, I have zero issue with using deadly force.

Yea but most of the time, you won't know if your life is truly in danger. Better to have something that's strong enough to take down a perp but not too strong. If you are getting into gun fights, look into moving out of the hood.

Gotta disagree here.

Birdshot within any reasonable "self defense" range will leave a deep, ragged, gaping hole in anything with a heartbeat. Birdshot acts like one single mass at short range.

I skinned nd butchered a bear oncen that was killed by birdshot at 3 yards. Federal black cloud #4 steel. Center mass, boom, flop. The damage was devastating. The bear was aggressively advancing on my buddy as he was duck hunting. First shot went into the ground to no avail. Next shot entered at the base of the neck, and then turned the next 12" of its body cavity to jello.

And steel isn't as dense as lead.

What if that person is hiding a knife or firearm? What if you shoot to injure them and they pull their gun while laying on the ground? Two important rules when pulling your firearm is that if you pull the gun, you better be prepared to use it, and you don't shoot to wound, you shoot to kill.

I don't value all human life, if someone decides to assault someone then they deserve whatever they get. Not going to see a single tear shed from me when some loser gets shot for starting a fight, robbing someone or breaking and entering someone's home.

Lets start over.

Statistically, you will be more likely to be attacked by someone who isn't armed with a knife or gun, in which case, the .22 is more suitable.

If up against a knife or pistol, 9mm is more suitable.

You can only cc one gun at a time. So, if we are going based on statistics? Which calibre are you going to cc?

For home defense, 9mm is the go to because you are confined in a tight space.

But for CC in public on your body, .22 makes more sense given the factors.

Pepper spray is another good tool, but I would not risk it. The .22 gives you more power without overdoing it.

Did you have any stray pellets in the meat?

Also tuna, .22 rim fire is less reliable in all circumstances where you use lethal force you want it to go bang. Also why take the chances that you definitely will not encounter someone with a higher caliber/gun/knife? Also can someone post video of guy attacking cop with knife and the cop has to dump a mag plus to get him to stop.

But in a court of law firing a .22LR at someone is assault with a deadly weapon. If I'm going to "assault" someone with a "deadly weapon", I'll be making damn sure it does so. Same response to people asking "why did he have to shoot him 10 times?". Well, shooting once is still considered a deadly act in court, so why would I only shoot once when I can shoot 10 times while facing similar possible charges?

I wasn't too choosy about what I took to be honest. Didn't take anything around the neck area, and the shot missed the quarters and back straps. That's 90 percent of the meat right there. The shot pattern was like 3" diameter, so wasn't really any stray pellets. That's what makes a shotgun deadly at close range. They are all together in a single mass, and spread out the further they get from the muzzle. An ounce of lead is an ounce of lead at that range. I have no doubt you'd get some manner of pass through shooting a human at close range.

Self defense without actually having to keel someone, soyo. That said, .22 can very well kill. Yall sleeping on this calibre.

Assuming its a lawful shooting. You have more favor-ability in both criminal and civil court if they are deceased.

Sorry, but you don't get social justice points for just wounding or 'stopping' someone. If you are worried about your conscious or giving them a 'second chance' you probably shouldn't be shooting them at all. Just bend over and submit.

Agreed, but as said by others in this thread. Self defense without having to kill someone is fine. However If I'm using a firearm in a situation of self defense, it will be to kill that person, nothing less. Anything less would not warrant firearm use. And if I'm going with said firearm for self defense, I'd rather it be something I know is deadlier than a .22LR.

I disagree that you can't incapacitate someone without actually having to kill them when using a firearm. Once the .22 penetrates the angus, you're in for a world of hurt regardless, but this calibre gives the perp a small ray of hope to live over a 9mm. I for one, don't want a death under my name.

The .22 is just a more useful caliber when you are on the move outside of your home.

OP is as retarded about guns as he is everything else.

One never pulls out a gun unless they (or others) are in direct danger. When that is the case, the gun bearer should use the weapon that can remove the danger as quickly and decisively as possible. For most women, yes a .22lr is probably preferred as they can keep putting bullets into the attacker because of ease in shooting. Once one starts shooting, they should keep firing until the attacker is no longer a danger. Aim for center mass only. No stupid movie head shots or Biden leg shots. Those are low hit areas and can cause bystander injuries and more time for the attacker to attack. I believe that one shoots to kill, never to maim. We don't do that to animals, why would we to humans.

For men with actual strength (unlike OP), a 9mm, 40S&W, 357, etc etc are all going to work better. Can a 22 kill? Yes, and many times does more internal damage as it snakes around organs where the larger caliber has more surface area and stops at a shallower point (usually).

This is of course for carrying in public. Home defense opens up a lot more options (shotgun, short AR style pistols, etc).

This thread is moot anyway. OP is too weak physically and of mind to actually carry anyway. He is old enough to have passed his school shooter age, so luckily all the kids that made fun of him growing up were not victimized by him.

There is no need to start over. I get the point you're trying to make, but its stupid. I don't care if someone is armed with fists, a knife or a gun. If I feel my life is in danger I don't want a little .22 as my defense. I want as much of an unfair advantage as possible. 9mm or 45ACP will always be my carry choice.

No, you're stupid. Just because you feel that you're in "danger" doesn't mean you have to automatically take someone's life when using a firearm. If they invade your home, that's a different story because the situation is different.

Not even talking about self defense, but even assault - theres the guy who shot another guy over a parking spot. Then there's the other guy who shot the dad for trying to see his son. If those assaults used .22's, the deceased would have a chance of survival. Then there's people getting killed for stealing catylictic converters. You think its ok to kill them over this stuff? I don't.

That's fine too. But the .22 will still have a higher survival rate but with the ability to incapacitate - that's the point im trying to make.

Agreed.

Still, just because they attack you, doesn't mean you have to kill them, especially if they are just using fistacuffs.
