Trust me, initially I would think the same as you. Holy fook at going to SEATTLE just for a wedding and ruining a weekend. Plus that amount of money just for that is pretty retarded. Females and their weddings are nuts. At the same time though if you're serious about this girl then it's almost a mixture of compromise in the relationship, and just going to be there with her and be protective. Plus she did say she'd pay for it. That means she really wants you to go, which should be a good thing. Idk as a man I wouldn't let my woman go away like that without me there as a territorial thing. Plus she is a bridesmaid so it isn't just some attendee thing.

If you do change your mind just say you thought about it more, and you realized you were caught up in the moment and decided you want to go with her and be there for her and be definitive in telling her that. You don't have to say you were "wrong" or anything.

They've only been dating a little over a year and she's a bridesmaid. It's not just some random friend.

If I flip it and put myself in this situation, I would expect my gf, who I am probably going to marry, to come with me to my buddies wedding if I'm a groomsman. I also would pay for her.

If she wasn't a bridesmaid and it was just some old acquaintance, or if I wasn't too serious with this chick, then I agree and I would not go. But the details point to going.

In all seriousness though, a bit odd you wouldn't go even if it was paid for. It's just a chance to get **** faced, eat free food, and dance around with your girl being silly. Plus you can style hard in a nice suit. Not to mention to get to make a decent impression on your GF's friend which probably means something to her. Instead your GF now has to explain to everyone why her man is beta as **** and will probably just lie and say you have covid since nobody would understand why the **** you wouldn't go along with your long term GF otherwise. I understand not truly wanting to go deep down, but it seems like you should go and it'll be better than you're expecting. Weddings where you don't know anyone are actually dope AF because you don't have to make small talk if you don't want to, just meet a few people here and there briefly and move on back to the drink line. Nobody knows you so they aren't expecting anything of you. As long as you don't get blackout drunk you're fine.

Yeah, but I don’t get how him not wanting to board his dog and fly across the country for a wedding involving people he has never met is selfish.
