What should we do with all the homeless?

40% of all households that are not current on their rent say they are likely to be evicted or foreclosed within the next two months. This represents about 5.4 million households, according to the report.
^^^This is from a Bloomberg report less than a week old.
5.4 million households potentially evicted or foreclosed in 2 months time.
So give them all 2 weeks to figure it out then start lining them up to be killed and dig some mass graves?
And, in case you didn't catch it in my last post, only 17% of the homeless are classified as chronic/long term. Most move in and out of homelessness.

- most people have fewer friends with age; men more so than women
- resources can be wiped out by a major illness, divorce, business failure, etc.
- not everyone has family to turn to...my parents and grandparents are deceased, other family are distant or not financially well off themselves
- I've preserved my credit though I was flirting with foreclosure last year because income I was depending on did not come through due to government inadequacy/shutdowns
I'm dealing so far and hope to get into a better position. However it is certainly not guaranteed especially given current economic conditions.
I've accumulated camping gear just in case.

I live in a city that's small enough to the point where you never really saw too many homeless folks wondering about. It was so uncommon compared to a legit major city that there were like 3 to 5 homeless guys who would wonder the town, and everyone got familiar with them and their traveling habits as they walked around the city every day. They didn't beg for chit either, it was like it was a life choice they were aware of and decided to roll with. So they didn't bother anyone at all.
Over the past year to year and half or so, I've seen homeless people out begging for crap with signs and all the works, sometimes even with kids standing around with them to try further guilt tripping people. They'll look you right in the eye and try to guilt trip the chit out of you into giving them cash ( ever food or something like that, just cash). I just try to avoid them, but it's pretty lame when you're stuck at a red traffic light for a couple minutes with a small group of apparently homeless/poor people whining that they want free cash from you.
Also, it never fails, the groups are always, ALWAYS lead by a grown, working age, able bodied man. Places were hiring all over the damn city for a couple years there, and those chumps had the audacity to still pull that bs. Total bums.

Again, the chronically homeless are only about 17% of the total homeless. So even if we go with 80% of the chronic homeless being homeless by choice that would only be 13% of the total homeless population.

You appear to believe in a just world- that people get what they deserve.

I don't believe in a just world. I believe in "the law of the jungle" I suppose, or that "you get whatever you CAN". I believe you had better keep your head on a swivel, be careful who you trust, and at least be open to the possibility that the "other guy" is a totally ruthless bastard who will happily screw you over for his own purposes.
I'm not "shifting the blame". I want to put the blame right where it belongs. Yes, part of that is individual weakness or lack of effort. However it is foolish to pretend that a good chunk of blame shouldn't fall on to "the system", aka: how money is created and distributed, and how labor/common people are exploited.
You can believe in:
personal responsibility
+
system failure
At the same time.

Bring back public mental health clinincs and asylums for the mentally ill. It's way cheaper in the long run and better for everyone. Here's your homeless crysis explained in a neat graph.

I agree with outlawing panhandling. It won't solve the issue, but it'll keep them out of certain areas. I see them in regular suburbs around Chicago like Oak Brook. They're at every intersection and half of them don't even look homeless.
I feel bad for the truly mentally ill, but the more I learn about them the less sympathy I have. I went down a rabbit hole of watching interviews with the homeless, and the crimes they commit and they way they treat one another is horrifying. Many simply don't want to work and will make any excuse under the sun in order not to.

Hey, here's a thought...instead of spending more billions to Ukraine how about let's stabilize the economic situation in our own country? Maybe prevent more people from falling into homelessness?
Posted previously that one of the 2 mega food banks in DFW is burning through $1 million a month right now and have had to reduce the amount of food that they give to each family by half because they have such a high demand. I promise the food banks aren't handing out high dollar fancy foods either.

Some kind of prison-like system, not explicitly named so, with tiers like
Rehab
short-term with job market assistance
long-term with benefits assistance
so many could essentially live in a "project" of inoffensive subsidized housing (a better use of money than most of government spending)
and those who fall off only step down to levels with guardrails in place.
A century ago, I think single men and women with below middle class income lived in boarding houses probably similar to this.

Put them in a reality TV game show like squid game. Have it a continuous episodic show until eventually majority of the homeless population is killed and reduced and the ones that win will be millionaires

Lots of nihilism here.
They need locked up.
The government can't do it.
They're annoying so **** 'em.
Katya showed more than 80% are short-term. The lack of a safety net does not make sense anymore because the west is not innovating on a world full of untapped capitalism anymore.
This number will probably increase a lot
The majority of Western capitalist countries use government for a lot of things and succeed, regardless the efficiency loss in parts.
