Clear about $500k+ a year in digital marketing. Tons of money thrown around on marketing spend so if you perform, companies will pay to spend money efficiently. Recessions and cuts also mean marketing is right after recruiting in getting cut so it's not always the safest job to have.
Live in HCOL so it's like earning $20k in some bumfck area though.

I honestly believe all the people who state their high incomes. When you make over 200k you also realize a lot of people make this and much more.
Misc used to be a place where people worked out and wanted to better their lives.

Basically I've been working in tech the past 12 - 14 years in various support, operations, SRE, and DevOps roles. I specialize in Big Data and Object Storage (i.e. Amazon S3, etc). Been playing with computers and Linux/BSD since I was a teenager.
Making the transition to tech sales gave me a 50% increase in my base.
Ultimately my role is to support the sales team to convert opportunities into tangible sells, help with renewals, fill out RFPs (request for proposals), perform demonstrations and POCs (proof of concept) for customers and ensure they are satisfied with the product and if not find what pain points they are having. Knowing how to leverage your soft skills and provide technical knowledge can help you make real $$$.
Honestly if I wanted to get to 200k now and I was new I'd go into cybersecurity. They have a 0% unemployment rate because there is a shortage of talent in that sector.

You have to realize that this isn't just a random population sample. The Misc historically consists of a subset of people. They have...
A. Enough technical understanding to join forums and participate actively on them, technical understanding is an advantage.
B. Social people, enough to want to participate in talking to people online. Social = advantage.
C. People who started with an interest in bodybuilding, which shows a high drive/work ethic/desire to better your live, advantage.
D. Survivorship bias. People who don't earn a lot probably don't talk about it much here.
Naturally, you'll hear about a lot of high earners here and for the most part, I believe them. I know a few users here actually and know they earn 200k+. I believe _Sword, and 5x10, etc.

In financial sales, our VP's make 150-170 (largest asset manager in the world/Bulge Bracket/Big Fund Shops) with a 25-50% bonus dependent on performance. comes out to about 250k all in. that said, Commission is where its at, bonuses are just capped clownery.
other friends making 200k are in tech sales for the most part, its easily replaced, tough to hit targets, very much a grind but good money while you can make it and doesnt take an insane amount of brain power
EDIT: Got there by going to uni, not being an idiot, networking. Its really that simple. Also 6'4 and a former d1 athlete which for some reason helps you a ton within finance/sales right off the bat

What I like about sales engineering is that I support the sales them but I'm not the one hard selling. I'm more of a trusted advisor that educates the client on our product and help them solve their problems through a series of discussions. I like the idea of consulting rather than being a hard seller.
Sales engineers have some level of insulation and job security because we are not the sales people necessarily. Of course you have to be a reliable sales engineer and help with proof of concepts and give excellent demos, but if the sale or renewal doesn't happen then it isn't really on you, it's on the sales people. I get a 75/25 base salary / commission split as a result so it's not life or die by the quota for me.

I plan to transition to data analytics with an interest in data. I also have a technical recruiter. I think this may be a good pivot for for me.

You have to be technical enough to talk to the people who are running the operations on a daily basis (i.e. VP of Engineering/OPS, SREs, DevOps) but also have the business acumen to talk to the economic buyer which may or may not be ultimate decision makers (think VPs and CTOs of companies) to explain the value of your product and why spending such a large sum on it is worth it. This usually comes down to a series of discovery phases to really drill down the pain points that the customer is facing. If you can also get champions in the company then you have a win.
You also gotta watch out for competition that comes in around renewal cycles because they can come in and affect the revenue your company is getting from your client. Also renewals are good upsell opportunities. Customers may buy for example a hundred seats of your fancy enterprise software and they may have a great experience. You can come in and see if they will buy 150, 200, or 300 seats during those periods. It's much easier to retain a customer and upsell them than find new opportunities.

I realized that it could take me 5+ years or another decade to get that. Plus I'm not the type of guy that live, breath, and eats tech meaning there are far more technically sound and smarter people than me that would get those roles before me so I was thinking this year of going into management (applied for a role at my previous job and didn't get it) or another position. I did sales engineering for a start-up briefly so I knew a bit about it so that was an option.
This sales engineer role came up and I got it. There's still room to make 300K+ without grinding on the tech side.

No more frantically looking at my phone after hours. I can relax a bit more and my proof of my value is that the sales/renewals are successful.
I considered management but I think this is the right move for me now.

Good work/life balance leaves a lot of time for hobbies and even a side hustle. Im involved in natural perfumery right now and its fun. Would like to launch a website but i need to nail down more fragrances first. Then comes bottling/boxing and e-commerce logistics
I also import middle eastern clothing and sell it on fridays. Had $235 in sales today in just under a single hour i think. So easy, meet lots of people, great atmosphere after friday prayer, etc. i use it to pay for my groceries or eating out without feeling too guilty about it. Its fun money

The misc has always been a place that attracted "better-off" people or simply people that wanted to better themselves. Most of us were brought here by either looking up supplements or workout programs. It's not unreasonable to assume misc would have a higher than average representation of people that are in the upper percentiles.
With that said, I just broke 200K this year and it wasn't without much work, long hours, and getting screwed along the way. But I now get a lot of freedom, work from home most of the time, and have good benefits.
I am in a Knowledge Management role that specializes in helping organizations capture/manage their knowledge, organizing information, retaining/disposition of said information, process improvement, semi-automation, and using content management tools like SharePoint (my specialty) to do all of this. The military taught me this skillset originally and I've simply expanded on it over the years.
I could definitely make more money if I went off on my own and started consulting, but I've never had a successful solo business venture so I'm always super hesitant to make that leap. I could also make more money if I focused more on certifications and became a microsoft premiere agent but that workload has been kinda ehhhh about it.

Too much talk about tech sales here. No mention that the tech sales boom is over and most of these phucks including miscers are probably on their way out of work.

Marry someone making $200k. Check mate.

Worked warehouse and labour jobs after high school up until I was 25
Went back to school in 2010, did upgrading and took a two-year Construction Engineering Technology program that is basically a project management course
Top of my class, 9 scholarships/awards, graduated in 2014
Went back to work in 2013-2014, started as a Junior Mechanical Estimator
Scooped up by a mentor, went into project controls
Been working in project controls for 8 years now
Started hopping companies in 2019, incorporated in 2020
Now consult through my own corporation and invoice companies for my services, currently charging $95/hr
Almost making 10x what I was a decade ago. Life is crazy boyos, looking back now I don’t even know how I ended up here

I got my main job which pays about $150k. 4 rental properties which I profit about $15k a year. My side business makes me about $70k a year.
I'm planning on buying a couple more rental properties next year if the prices drop. My side business is still growing so I may end up making $90k this year.

Trust me, I am a pharmacist.
