Mermaids in real life would be pretty scary.
have to think that if they just breathed air like a sea lion, they would have to live close to shore. If that were the case they would always be out of the water and we would see them all the time.
So lets assume they live in the deep ocean like dolphins. Look at the shape of the body, their eyes would be looking down all the time. Fish arent like that so you have to assume the eyes would be where the top of the forehead is so they would look straight when they swam. Imagine if you tilted your head back to look straight up. Theirs would adapt to that position so if they walked around, they would look like that all the time.
For breathing they would need a blow hole, again like dolphins have so that would probably be where the back of the head is now.
Overall a pretty scary looking monster.
