I've never been to a strip club.
Let me get this straight.

So you pay probably $300+ minimum between tickets, gas money, concessions, etc. to see a (famous) live band in concert. They are millionnaires for playing their music to the peasants, and the concerts are actually where a large portion of where a lot of bands' money comes from.

...and you think *they* are the jesters while the audience is the royalty? u wot, m8?

Lived for 3 years on a small island in the South Pacific (Funafuti, Tuvalu) where things are quite conservative (at least traditionally) and arranged marriages are a thing.

Asked her father if I could take her out and he said no, and that if I wanted to talk to her I could talk to her at the house. Made an appointment to go back and they let us talk out of hearing, but not out of sight. Popped the question and she said yes and to come back and ask her father. Went back with my "Tuvaluan father" (language teacher's bro in law) and asked officially.

Two months later we were married. Our first kiss was literally when the pastor said "you may now kiss your bride". That was 28 years ago, and we're still happily married. I've thought of doing an AMA, but been pretty busy lately and didn't want to turn it into a "ask me anything and I'll never get around to answering" things that seem to pop up here occasionally.

Damn. Mirin. Were you somehow familiar with each other before you asked, or did you just think she looked good and rolled the dice?

We had talked briefly a couple of times (she worked at the store), but mostly knew each other by reputation. Her and her family had a really good reputation and a reputation for being very traditional. Her uncle was Governor General the first year or so that I was there and he knew me from work and we really hit it off. Being seen in church every Sunday didn't hurt my chances any, either. But, yeah, there was some dice rolling involved.

A friend took a really good picture of me right before I went over to the church and it was complete deer in the headlights wondering if I had made the right decision. Every picture of me at the reception I was all smiles.
