I was bummed when the caboose became obsolete, but since the 1980's railroads have relied on track side detectors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defect_detector) to monitor the million+ rail cars that are in use.
Hot boxes or hot bearing detectors are used to measure the temperature of the journal bearings of a train. They typically consist of two infrared eyes on each side of the tracks looking up at the train's bearings.[3]

They register the radiation from every journal bearing that passes over them. If a bearing reaches the maximum temperature for safe travel, the detector will flag and count it as a defect. Because bearings can burn off in as little as three minutes, hotbox detector installations are extremely common on many railroads.

I honestly don’t know enough to say either way- my point was that the side blaming trump for undoing the regulation has had more time to reinstate them (since they are seemingly so important, even if they wouldn’t have applied to this train) than they were actually removed under trump.

When in doubt, move the goalposts.

If it makes economical sense then yeah sure. "Better" is a subjective term, Trump may have the final say on what regulations he chose to roll back, but he did so on the advice of his advisors who specialize in these things.

Proof these brakes had anything to do with the accident or are you just going to keep moving the uprights?
