My only issue with Hyundai is the break and ride, I used to rent cars at Hertz when I would travel up state so my car didnt rack up miles and the Hyundais they gave me all had a rough ride, and bad break like stiff break.
I drove a veloster, a elantra and a sonata
The brakes I'll be ok with since I'm used to sports cars and sporty sedans. I do wonder about the ride. Going from a 328 to this will probably be a shock. but then again if I got something like a sequoia, tahoe, suburban, etc. I would probably find they all ride rough compared to a tiny BMW.
Genesis interiors are so nice too, I would have gone for a GV70 for the dash styling etc but ended up with a GV80 for the extra space

The Volkswagen Golf GTI was a similar car to the Veloster but it had no issue with break stiffness, it was a fun ass ride I had one when I was a kid and it was fun to drive around.

The JD Power Dependability Study specifically looks at 3-year-old vehicles, it's an assessment of the dependability of new vehicles under warranty. JD Power has a separate Initial Quality Study for the first 90 days after taking ownership. Much of this is geared more towards vehicle manufacturers and helping them improve their processes and products etc, but it's the best we have.
Looking at Hyundai's problems 6+ years ago might not be overly helpful in determining what you may experience in a vehicle purchased today, for what I think are obvious reasons.

Who gives af about resale? German cars are twice the price and still plummet in value in 5yrs with chit relability. Cars are not an asset, if you dont want to lose money then stick to riding a bike.
These trucks and SUVs are used for camping/hunting/fishing and construction long after their passenger car life is over. They have heavy duty brakes, axles, transmissions, and low revving simple to repair V8 engines that can run forever. You can pull a short block out of any junk yard and turn it into a race engine for very little $$$.
The couple of Kias and Hyundai's that qualify for Uber black will hold their value fairly well because they get snagged up by the people who want to drive a taxi for a living, but once they are outside of Uber's age range they aren't going to be worth a dime because they will have ridiculous mileage. There is artificial demand for them as a poor man's taxi.

midsize pickups like the tacoma and ranger are about the only vehicles I can think of worth even mentioning for resale value after being that old.
Second of all, there are loads of kias that are older than that which have held their value just as well as domestic SUVs. Go look up old sorentos and sante fe's. They are selling for about 1/3 their MSRP, same as tahoes and suburbans.

Do look nice. I was looking at the 2023 Sequoia, then decided I would never pay over 40k for any land vehicle ever. If the tow capacity is legit, I'd actually consider this. Need something to haul a boat and my Jeep WK2 has a 7200lb tow capacity (I'd never tow that much weight though).
Edit: Ooof. 5k tow capacity. That's pathetic.

I had one of my insurance clients come in last week with his new Hyundai and brought in the paperwork. Holy FOOK, it was a $46k SANTA FE. You still see those 10-15 year old junky Santa Fes on the road around here and holy chit, what a difference. That said, for now we are Mazda crew, will look at the CX 50 or CX 90 when it comes to replace my wife's car in a few years. Though I would consider a Hyundai Palisade.

Also Im not talking about trucks and suburbans. Obvously they hold their value cause the options are limited in that class. Aside from the tundra there isnt much competition.

That said I'm glad I will be able to sell a 10 year old car with 100K miles for probably 6-8K when I only paid $13,500 for it 4 years ago.
