You know here's a point about marxism. Think about how well-known he is in the world. Think about how his ideas influenced societies. That's not to say you like his ideas, but just think about how widespread they are.

Now, keep that in mind. We all talk about brainwashing, we talk about propaganda, we talk about narrow-mindedness. Ask yourself why Marx isn't even mentioned in economics classes in American universities. You can get a PhD in the US and you probably won't hear the word "Marx".

There's got to be a reason right? Was he wrong about everything? Okay fine, that's still worth at least mentioning why he was wrong. Look at all these zoomer Marxists, you can tell them why their ideas are bad, we can save them!

In economics class you hear about the Chicago school, you hear about the origin of markets, you hear about all these other concepts that have been discarded, but in a typical university economics classes don't even mention Karl Marx. The answer isn't exactly obvious but what I will say is that if you follow that question it does teach you about the real purpose of our education system.

Let's say you hate Marx. Well I hate Hillary Clinton, I actually read her book, I can tell you why I hate her still. Have you read a book on Marx? Would you ever? Why do people get mad just hearing the name? Kinda strange.

Mainly because economics =/= economic history.

Modern, mainstream economics is empirical and based on research, testable hypotheses, and mathematical modelling.

There aren't really separate "schools" of modern economics in that sense. Everything empirically useful from different branches of economic thought (monetarist, Keynsian, neoclassical etc) has already been incorporated into mainstream economics and used in research.

So if you study economics formally you don't get a separate course on the Chicago school for example - the relevant concepts of monetarism are already baked into the modern understanding of the subject.

So no reason why Marx or any heterodox theory would be taught in an econ undergrad class, it just isn't relevant to what said class is trying to teach. It would be much more relevant in some kind of history or philosophy degree.

That said there are some academic economists who do specialise in Marxism (eg. Richard Wolff) but they are fringe and have almost no citations. Same for other discarded schools of thought like Austrian economics.

Great post!

Here's the reason, it's because what Marx said is true. We have a slave system where women are whores, etc and people can't face it.

I have a coworker who a couple of weeks ago thought maybe she had cancer. She did not want to talk to the doctor after that because it was too scary.

My gf was in an accident years before I met her and she has so odd health issues. One doctor suggested that she may have some brain damage that is affecting her and needs a MRI. I encouraged this BUT my gf totally ignored the doctor. She just got a notification from the doctor to come for a visit and my gf ignored it.

Recently, at work, I met a profoundly depressed looking boy who lives with a cheerful adopted mom. I figured out that the the boy is likely depressed because he's adopted and knows his biological mom is having another baby, etc. I pointed that out and now the adopted mom is kind of avoiding me.

Those examples address what you brought up about Marx.

Many people cannot stand learning a negative truth about themselves. It doesn't even have to be true, they will avoid the issue even if it may be true.

Marx is right and you can have a communist society if you want to. However, we live in a rapist society where most people have to submit to the rapes and pretend it's normal and they can't deal with the idea that it all doesn't have to exist.

Avoiding Marx is a slave mentality.

Again, that's stupid.

Marx was living in the world.

Greta probably takes cars to get to places, that doesn't mean she loves it.

Sadhguru got accused of disrupting the lives of elephants to build his Yoga center, but that doesn't mean he hates elephants.

Voltaire was accused of owning businesses and being rich, but he had to pay for his efforts to bring down Catholics and royalty, no one else was paying for him to do it, etc.

Your thinking is childish and feminine.

Was Marx supposed to live like the future he predicted even though it wasn't happening when he predicted it?

No, because how could he?

After all of the accurate information I provided please point out how a cooperative worker's society rapes anyone.

The people who will get raped by that are predatory capitalists as they will have no way to prey on people.

I pointed this out before....

You can't APPLY Marxism to anything as it's a prediction about social changes that will come in the future.

Marxism is not a political party or movement, it's a sociological prediction that humanity will return to tribal cooperation.

I also gave the example of the Catholic Church. That was not real Christianity. They violate EVERY major rule Jesus said and they used the name "Jesus" to wage wars, get rich, have power, and so on.

However, fools think that "Christianity" caused wars and whatnot. It didn't, rather, people using its name waged wars for their own profit by fooling people.

In North Korea, they have kingdom, not a communist government. The royal family uses the word "communism" to trick idiots into not thinking they are kings, when that's what they are.

Marxism has shortcomings and requires amendment. This has been understood for a long time.

Perhaps the most obvious issue is Okishio's theorem.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okishio%27s_theorem

Anyway, Marx was an eminent theorist and philosopher. People can mock him all they want, but he had some good ideas and some not so good ones, but his approaches laid the foundations for a better civilization long before the field of economics properly even existed.

He said "communism." They're confusing Marxism with the communist system of government where thegovernmentowns the means of production.

The TRPF wasn't Marxs idea either. It was a general observation by economists of the time. Adam Smith had his own theories as to why it happened for example

Yea and most importantly, the tools and methods to even check if it was real didn't exist yet. Marx, in good faith, tried to analyze economy and promote a better society. Yet, he's demonized today. Few men of his time even put the effort in to try to imagine better.

Everyone ignore the Fraudlerian in this thread. He knows nothing about Marxism as he couldn't defend any point he made in a different thread. He thinks Marx argued for Utopian ideals even though Marx himself criticized his contemporaries for even postulating Utopias. It is very clear to me he has done no research into it whatsoever (even though he claims to be an expert on the subject). He also claimed Europe was a tribal society just 1000 years ago like Marx would have wanted for our societies

He also appears to be using the "thats not real communism defense" and trying to completely disassociate Karl Marx from Communism

Marx died in 1883. Go and look when Lenin implemented the first communist country.

Are you implying there is no association between Marx and communism?

I'm sticking to the thread topic.

In Marx, there's supposed to be a "government" composed of worker's unions where they try to figure out how to serve the public needs, for a period of time. But, that's not a military dictatorship or anything average people associate with Marxism.

Communism is based on Marxist principles, but Marx is not responsible for it or any implementations of it. "Marxist" has become an umbrella term for any attempt at social welfare. It's hilarious and sad how fuked up our country is.

Once again, ad hominem as a retort...... Do you lack the mental capacity to rise above middle school insults and actually engage with substance? Like every challenge, you devolve the conversation to a tirade of the same childish insults

Did I say he was responsible for it? I believe him to have been a truly honest thinker even if I disagree with his outcomes. However, he is the foundation of modern communism and there is no way around that. Can you make the claim the examples of communism have fallen away from his ideals? Sure, but you cannot separate the two just as you cannot separate a structure from its foundation
