Really I should of brought proper marathon shoes a few weeks before the event but didn’t bother lol.

Hold up... you've been training for a marathon but had same pair of shoes for a whole year?

If your putting in any sort of decent weekly mileage should regularly be buying new pairs of shoes brah, probably should rotate between a different pair each run as well.

weird you say you ran SLOWER in group than on solo runs, normally should be the opposite

looking at your split times you fell off hard the second half, you sure you didn't start too enthousiastic/blew yourself up from the start?

Props on the achievement and goal setting!
So yeah if you ever want to break the sub 4 time then you jut train properly with this experience in mind.
new shoes are a must, getting that 20 mile training run in is key!
cool lightweight breathable clothing for warmer than expected humid days.
for me it was 4 hours of a music playlist that kept me moving (edm)
And i found a female runner to pace and then beat at the finish line.
great learning experience.

are you going to work overtime for the next 2 days like predicted?

Yeah think it’s a combination of the weather being warm and because I was with thousands of others it was hard to overtake at times also the hills were extreme.

Almost all my training was done in cold weather too so I’m more used to that.

But yeah I fell off really hard at 16-17 miles and was walking most of it or doing walk/run intervals as my legs were in agony.

Congrats OP and don't worry about your time. I've run three and the first time I ran one I was off pace by at least a minute and a half. I was in incredible shape (still wrestling) and was training at a pace to run sub 3:20 but ran a 4:03. Adrenaline, running with a crowd, and a myriad of other factors come into play for the hobbyist runners

Just be proud you did something that 99% people will never do

Nah I had my headphones in majority of the time so barely talked to anyone.

Some nice woman gave me some pain killers after she saw me limping towards the end though.

Myron. The best sleeps are the ones after a long and hard workout. I stay away from marathons though because it’s too taxing on the body

Great accomplishment, Ibby! I'll bet you sign up for another marathon soon. They're not that bad after the first one is under your belt.

Some pointers:

- bring salt tabs next time
- tape up your feet when you feel those hotspots so as to not allow blisters to form and kill your speed
- should always buy multiple pairs of shoes and rotate during training.
- you need to do proper research and buy a good pair of shoes to address your pronation -- it'll protect your ankles and help prevent foot injuries.

- hopefully your increased cardiovascular fitness allows you to bang out them big booty brazilian whores the full half-hour without stopping for a breather.

Yeah I signed up last year but only really started training seriously for it in December/January.

I was planning to buy proper marathon shoes closer to the time but just didn’t bother in the end as I didn’t want to spend 250 quid on a pair of shoes, my own fault tbh.

Plus I read you should only change shoes every 400-500 miles, I ran like 240 miles total in my shoes.

Honestly I think I’ll do another one now as I want to redeem my time and set a new PR but not till next year probably.

But yeah if I do attempt it again will definitely invest in another pair of shoes.

On the plus side I have elite cardio when smashing now srs, was like a turbo jet mogger pounding non-stop without getting out of breath when I last banged the Brazilians.

Yeah I attempted the 20 mile run 2 weeks before but gave up after 3 miles as my legs felt heavy af, plus barely had any sleep so just wasn’t feeling it.

I did one overtime 12 hour shift yesterday and now got another 3 more, gotta make dat der money.

Yeah my legs are recovered now but still have massive painful blisters on my right foot, been struggling to walk for days.
