Sorry Elon.
I like some of your other sayings, but this one ain't it.
I'll never go back to the office.
Changed to 100% fully remote a little bit ago.
I'd average maybe 10 - 15 at the absolute most hours of work a week since then.
I'll pause the NBA playoffs and put my drink on the coaster and reply to an email here and there. Just f'kin LOL if you think I'm going to ever go back to an office and try to look busy for 25 hours a week.
You aren't paying me to be at the computer from 9-5. You're paying me to do a job.
That job gets done, so stfu.
I can't wait until the entire generation of herp derp be in the office dies away, seriously. You're not elite. You're a clown.

I'm an all or nothing kind of guy so hybrid doesn't work for me. Before covid I had the option to work from home two days per week and never took it, I preferred working in an empty office with everyone else at home.
Not too concerned with lower paid replacing job either. I've worked with plenty of East European and Indian workers and they are a mixed bag with technical work but usually weak on the communication side.
Main issues I see are AI and VR. Once VR improves bosses will be saying you can WFH but need to sit in a virtual cubicle along with all the other peons. A few years away from that so in the meantime just working towards financial independence.

Working Remotely Can Increase Productivity up to 77%
77% of those who work remotely at least a few times per month show increased productivity, with 30% doing more work in less time and 24% doing more work in the same period of time according to a survey by ConnectSolutions.

This stuff is a problem. On the one hand it is much more efficient for the individual to WFH, OTOH commercial real estate and all the little businesses that exist to serve commuters are getting creamed.

I've always been able to efficiently streamline my work to get it done faster than required and all it led to was punishment by being given more bullchit work just because 'if you have time to lean you have time to clean' mentality middle managers without any additional compensation. As a result I'd just purposefully do everything slower to stretch it out over the day. That's all time wasted that I could have been using for my own self-care at home.
Everybody knows that most people in an 8 hour day are productive for like 3-5 hours maximum. If the work is getting done there is literally 0 point keeping people around for another 3 hours just because you're an extrovert who can't handle not having people to talk to during that day.

I could see us moving more from an employment system and more towards a contract system- meaning you could be contracted to complete tasks within a time frame instead of paid by the hour and required to put in X days.

IMO if there was an authentic concern for the environment and conservation there would be a shift to paying employees a per shift fee for commuting if commuting is required + a percentage bump for peak traffic times in big metro areas.
How much less concrete would have to be poured into roads if commuting was greatly reduced and if those who are commuting were not doing so all at roughly the same time each day?
But none of it is about the environment or climate, it's about control and milking the plebs of every last dime.

Finding a way to tackle pollution at a large scale and increasing overall human QOL are far more pressing issues that Elon hardly seems interested in tackling outside of his cars which quite frankly are a poor solution. The irony is that he's doing tesla to help tackle car emissions and the boring company to help reduce traffic congestion whilst he hates WFH which is one of the easiest solutions to tackle both fuel emissions and traffic because a significant portion of drivers will no longer have to commute.

it's not up to him or corporate america.
your best and highly talented will ALWAYS prefer a remote job, so they can move out of chitty violent expensive liberal cities with tons of traffic.
So dln't offer it? you keep losing your talent.
That's why WFH is offered. Not to be "nice". I work from home. My emploeyr knows if they cancelled it - i'd just go to their competitor. Office life is just meetings, coffe breaks, browsing and wasting time anyways.
I still come in for meetings and once every 2 weeks, so you cna't outsource to someone far away. Most know are hybrid anyways.

Elon doesn't even *need* to work another day in his life, but he clearly understands that work is how chit gets done and how we advance society whereas some people are on a quest to check out of working ASAP and want to sit around at home in their underwear until that time.
