I highly suggest the book Dopamine Nation

Look it up, get the synopsis, listen to the author's podcast etc

1-3 minutes of ice cold showers in the morning will reset your dopamine

Make it harder for yourself to get alcohol, don't keep it in the house, hide your ID etc

Change your environment, move!

Don't let alcohol consume YOU

I’d recommend a hospital for a few days if you quit cold turkey. You’ll prob get tremors due to withdraw. They can pump you with the right fluids etc. at my worst I had a 2 day stay at a legit hospital to get through the withdrawals. The. I just stopped drinking. I’ll have a few every month or so not even.

But that control came after a few years of sobriety and personal self reflection. A lot can’t go back to drinking. Nothing wrong with being sober.

If you don’t want to check into an actual hospital to get through the withdrawals, taper like RLA suggested. But come to terms your sleep will suck for a while. You’ll feel like **** for a while. But you will feel better in time. Srs.

Sleep, go to Whole Foods and find this drink called CALM. It’s a mix in drink, not heavy in melatonin but has other stuff that are better like magnesium. That will definitely help.

Fuaaaark. Whenever I do drink more than 4 beers in a day I feel like utter chit the next morning. I have never dealt with alcoholism so I can't give you any advice on that, however those who are suggesting tapering off gradually make a lot of sense imo.

This site has some good info on tapering (ignore the Geocities) look:

https://hams.cc/

Like someone said above, the best way to avoid drinking is to find something else to do. I've found that thinking about not drinking is just as bad as thinking about drinking.

For the insomnia, try Diphenalhydramine HCl, sold over the counter as non-habit forming sleep aid.

I have a cert in Sub Abuse Counseling(though I’m not using it), I’d recommend finding a facility for some sort of group or individual counseling. Doesn’t have to be AA, though that’s free. You can prob find a sliding scale place that’ll be cheap/free since you’re unemployed. That **** really helps. You can get sober, but you won’t stay sober unless you work on the mental aspects and develop the coping tools. Groups with others can help put things in perspective. Individual can help key in on your personal reasons for drinking and quitting drinking.

You’ll prob start eating a bunch of junk food when you quit. Replacing the sugar cravings etc. that happens.

It won’t be easy. Anyone who says it is is a clown. You can’t live a daily life without being reminded of alcohol. You can lose your friends who encourage the behavior(I don’t recommend that, find or be open and hope your friends are supportive. That truly helps). Alcohol is on tv. Billboards. Radio. Stores. You’ll have to learn how to ignore that noise and not be triggered. It’s a process but doable.

Also anhedonia will kick in. You won’t find things as enjoyable. That takes time to reset as well. Your brain chemistry is ****ed up. The neurotransmitters. But trust me the longer you are sober, it can get to normal again. Just understand that it isn’t “depression” it’s a natural process on getting sober. If you drink to feel that pleasure again, try to remember it will only set you back

Good luck man.

People cold turkey on 750ml a day, but if you are having withdrawals (we are all physically different) then you need to taper like RLA stated.

"I'm deep" is just a cope to enable you to continue drinking. Alcohol significantly messes with your perspective and forces you to believe things that facilitate consuming more. You need to change your mindset to "I am in a bad place, but I can get out of it". Changing your perspective will allow you to have the will to get yourself out of this hole. You are not stuck, you are just being lied to by the substance and you do have the power to change. Next time you have a self-defeating thought - be mindful of it and realize consuming more is never the right answer.

Prayers.

Hey man

Sorry to hear you're struggling.

Usually there is a rock bottom that is involved with quitting. Some people will find that rock bottom with jail, losing a girlfriend or family, being broke , and many more find that rock bottom with death.

Unemployment and also having money on top of it are a perfect recipe for alcoholism to truly take it's toll.

This is a horrible forum to ask for advice on something like this. I would advise heading over to reddit and visiting the 'stop drinking' sub on there to hear stories of people who have tried to cope their entire lives with alcohol and who are telling their story about why alcohol is NOT the answer

Many lives are lost, people are hurt, lives are ruined because of this disease.

I know right now you're in withdrawals and so telling you to hit the gym is such a seemingly impossible task right now...but as soon as you feel ready you need to make that effort to go.

Prove to yourself that you are someone worth saving by stopping this madness.

I'm a week sober after a binge, and I can tell you first hand that this does not end well.

Any questions at all please ask

CBN is a completely different substance than CBD, CBN is derived from THC.

CBN will absolutely make you sleep, CBD is snake oil

I started treating alcohol like I treated my diet. I started counting how much alcohol I consumed to get a buzz/drunk/blackout. I count from a filtered vodka bottle 60 seconds a night. It's enough to get me buzzed, drunk, feel good and its right before the black out cut off point, which is around 80 seconds of a pour for me. I started managing my alcoholism better, knowing what time I would drink and how much I would drink each day. It's good to keep track of everything you do.

Only drink after 5pm and start drinking less.

Probably get to where it's down to 4-ish beers per night for few days, before stopping completely, if you're currently drinking 14. Couple of weeks taper?

Although I doubt you would get DTs if you stopped completely now or did a quick few days taper , down to like 8 or so, then stop, if its just like 5% beer. Just messed up sleep, cravings, etc.

Not a Dr tho.

Try using kratom to ease yourself off the boozin', then quit both.

Taper in a realistic way until you're down to 1 beer at night. If you aren't waking up with the shakes, after a night of not drinking, just convert to kratom use, or even cannabis. Just don't become dependent on the kratom or weed, think of it solely as a tool to quit booze.

lol your tapering off advice is good for someone with a light addiction.

but not for a heavy addict who is physically dependent on alcohol and experiences physical symptoms of withdrawal
