It is just amazing what happened. I feel so bad for the people who were killed and their families and for the people who lost their homes or business. And I shudder to think of all the animals that were killed.

I have been to Hawaii twice and my wife and I stayed on Maui the last time we were there 2 years ago and visited the city that burned down as we were staying just a few miles north up the beach. We stood right at the waters edge there where all the boats burned. Had a great meal.

It amazes me everything burned like that because when we were there it rained at least once every day and it was very very humid. Everything was green. They say they went into a drought over a year ago which was so hard for me to understand considering how it is there normally.

If typing a few words into a search box is "seeking out clearly fake CT nonsense" then I guess I'm guilty.

That isn't how it works. They have shifts of people fighting the fires 24/7 for weeks.

I find these wildfires suspicious. Has Hawaii ever had a history of wild fires? Especially Mauii with its humid weather.

It is extremely odd. No real history of fires not involving an erupting volcano.

Don't get me wrong the winds were very very strong when the fires broke out but there are a lot of strange things that took place. Including no fire alarms sounded.

It’s an island jfl this isn’t cali or the mainland where tons of units can respond instantly. They ended up pulling in tons of responders from the main island after the fires really started, the wind from the hurricane was grounding a lot of help

They put the fires out on Tuesday and then reignited due to the wind, the 2nd unit couldn’t contain the embers

The whole island has tons of different environments on it, where the fires started it’s notoriously dry. Other parts of the island are very wet. In the middle of the island is a big ass volcano

This is what happens when people get info on twitter jfl

It could have been reignition. That doesn't answer what the original cause was, or why no alarms were sounded.
An investigation into the fires' origins is ongoing. "Investigators are likely to consider several possible sources that sparked the blazes, including a campfire, lightning, transmission equipment and the electric grid," The Wall Street Journal said, citing longtime fire investigators and electrical-grid experts.

"We only have 3% of the search done and they want to be meticulous and do it right. So right now they're going street by street and block by block, they're doing cars and soon they'll start to enter buildings," Retired Maj. Jeff Hickman, a spokesperson for Hawaii's Department of Defense, said.

Hawaii National Guard has been deployed to assist locals while 400 FEMA personnel with cadaver dogs search the area. At 96 deaths with only 3% of the area searched, well, this only means the death toll will rise.

I'm not personally too excited about this, but there is also a story circulating now about the area police chief.

Well if that is true? Than that is another red flag of strangeness.

Why leave a smouldering fire/embers near a city with what were supposed to be strong winds for days?

Makes zero sense.

Almost like they were told to stand down in a sense. Very odd.

From comments:
On the afternoon of Aug. 9, the Hawaii Fire Department received a report of several brushfires on Mill Camp Road in Pahala. They found two separate fires upon arrival, one on either side of Mill Camp Road. They were burning in the same area, but how the fires started appeared to be different, according to a news release.

Detectives determined that an unattended cooking fire started one of the fires.

The second fire may have been intentionally set as investigators found an incendiary device on the roadway where they believe the fire started.

Both fires were extinguished by fire personnel.

The investigation found that just after the fires began, a male operating a green All-Terrain Vehicle was seen leaving the area of Mill Camp Road. His identity is currently unknown.

According to police, the fires in Pahala are not related to the fires in the North and South Kohala Districts. The cause of those fires is undetermined.

Hawaii government is 100% liable for some of this. They suck here. Total donkeys and negligence srs.

Maui simply didn't have enough fire fighters to fight the blazes, and thought the fire was contained enough.

No firefighters or public services were activated the night of the fire. No sirens to warn the people in the middle of the night.

Power company could've turned off the power lines, there were reports of fallen live power lines way before the big fire started, etc.

I mean I get that. And as I said I have been to Maui and spent 5 hours or so in Lahani.

Didn't seem that dry to me. Rained everyday and everything was green and moist.

Understand I live in S Cal north of LA and it is a desert climate. At one point last year we went over 250 days with no rain.

That is what I call dry. Hawaii's dry is a normal states normal.

Granted the winds were ferocious so with winds that high it might not matter how wet something is.

A few years ago when I lived in Pasadena we had winds like what Maui had and it started fires everywhere. Was so windy that car batteries went dead from all the electricity in the air. And there was no clouds and no rain. Just the wind came down off the mountains that are north of Pasadena and created a weird electrical field.

One thing people are misunderstanding about the winds in Maui is they were not a DIRECT result of being in a hurricane. There was no rain or lightning. The hurricane was 600 miles south. What happened was a high pressure system was north of Hawaii and the Hurricane was 600 miles south, so where those two extreme pressure gradients, one high and one low...met? Right over Hawaii?

Massive winds were created.

All these reports about invasive grass species that apparently caused the fire. You mean to say that nobody bothered to check where this grass came from and report that it could be a fire hazard? And already the governor of Hawaii is blaming climate change without even waiting for an investigation. And locals are saying they are being robbed/looted by armed criminals (in Hawaii of all places) and already excuses are being made saying that when people are desperate, they will do anything to survive. Everything feels like a con job.

Yeah here in S Cal they turn off the power at times if it gets too windy.

that's the Hawaii government for ya. just reactionary and doesn't take precautionary measures.

As for the looting, it shouldn't surprise anyone too much. There are a lot of chronics and transplants in the Hawaii islands.

Hawaii locals have been pretty united in their support for Maui.

Government/FEMA/Red cross, literally stopping people coming in with truckloads of supplies for the people. And the people literally went around the roadblocks in boats to get supplies to survivors.

chit is backwards.
