I don't see where it's reported that this was a billion dollar study.

But if this is just one of those "all research and science is bad" arguments, then there isn't much to discuss

You didn’t realize that over a billion dollars has been poured into studying “long Covid”? So people are incentivized to exaggerate the severity and frequency of “long Covid”. That is why the claims and numbers you like to spout off don’t seem to match up with the reality anyone is experiencing. But don’t worry bro, we’re sure you are just super interested in the subject and all your incentivized studies are really legit. Again, we’re all just walking miracles who somehow managed to avoid and have everyone we know avoid the terrible fate being experienced by 20% of the people infected.

The authors list the grants. They don't add up to a billion dollars.

I understand that view of thinking one's personal experience is representative of everyone. I just don't agree with that view.

I can also see why those who believe letting it rip is an optimal strategy would want to reject anything that suggests repeated infections might impact some people.

You come across ten people that had the Rona and you're claiming two of them are suffering long term complications?

He’s claiming that despite the fact that he hasn’t experienced that and no one else he’s interacted with has, he “trusts the science” that had over a billion dollars poured into it and which is incentivized to exaggerate both the severity and frequency of “long Covid”.

None of that is true. But I can understand why construing that as my position is convenient.

So you don’t trust the science. That’s certainly an interesting turn of events.

10-20% of those who get the Rona will have long term complications, you come across ten people and you're saying that 1-2 of them are suffering long term complications, then you go, "Nope."

It seems you don't, that's why I asked if estimation and probability are new concepts for you. I think it's valuable to also understand the concept of uncertainty.

I didn't say "will".

Concepts of estimation, probability, and uncertainty are key elements in sciences like epidemiology.

One is not considered vaccinated till 14 days after injection…so OP’s study does not actually give a true assessment of control group

I'm not an author on this one.

But, it wasn't a vaccine comparison, so you might be looking for a control group that wasn't part of the design. The condition of interest was infection.

The authors detail the cohort in the paper.

My guess is they wanted to preemptively address those who would attribute the results to vaccines

I'm still not an author.

But, I can understand why you need or want to believe vaccines are the cause in this study (without reading it).
