Some couples go into silos and feel lonely in their own relationship. Guys especially. Then they go out for a drink after work and the 24 year old bartender wants to get smashed by the guy who "has it made" and the guy thinks he has lost it all. He thinks this because he doesn't sit down with his wife.
Posted a thread a while back of a colleague who paid some Korean sloot in a "salon" in Ktown here in NYC for a drunken handjob and how much of a loser/depressed/sick he felt after.
Some Miscers did the old "all men pay for it, good for him lol" take. You can tell they are single and unhappy srs.

Before kids with my ex, it was super easy to just hang out and do all the stuff he wanted done, but once kids came around, I had to allocate a huge portion of my energy to them and he got super bitter about it. I think the marriages that stay happy after kids are the ones where both parties evolve to the life of parenthood. But I've also found where women will go too far into their mom roles and just completely neglect their husbands, too, and those ones seem to be the loudest and bitchiest.

I wonder how many of these folks grew up in unhappy households (their parents) and let this experience negatively color their beliefs about the possibility of a happy relationship at all.

My gf told me that of the 4 women that went to lunch Sunday, 3 are either going to divorce, split up, or do counseling.
My theory based on what she shared from the margarita lunch was that things did not go as they planned or someone changed.
No one can predict changes.

And the husband went to the gym, has business lunches...she doesn't even have an adult conversation because he comes home and they don't connect. Just talking past each other for months and years. It is the recipe for disaster: not communicating with each other.
Hate to see it.

I'm the asshat in the relationship, not her. I've mellowed since we had a kid, but I used to get so focused on things that I would become oblivious to some "less important things".
I'm fortunate that we know and understand each other well enough that she will say "I love you, but you are being a dick, stop it". She'll then tell me what I was oblivious to, I'll take a pause and reset.

Husbands don’t seem to play any role other than just a worker.
I was forced into the stay at home mom role and it drained TF out of me. I couldn't balance it all by myself AND focus on his needs and wants, so it went sour pretty quick. Now that it's just me and the kids, I somehow have a much more balanced approach to parenting.

They have an unrealistic expectation of what we can provide them.
They meet us and overlook our human condition. Almost as gods, because that is what society tells them. We are supposed to be stronger than humanly possible in every instance, we are supposed to be without flaw. We are supposed to be their hero and the hero of the kids.
But we are just dudes. We have strength, and can easily meet family needs and lead a family in a very healthy way, but in the end, we are just dudes. And the things about dudes they don't like, they begin to resent us for it. They resent us because their standard of what we should be, is literally impossible to meet.
They can't allow us to be ourselves, we always have to meet this idea of what they expect us to be. Being ourselves is annoying and frustrating to them.

I really believe the VAST majority of lasting marriages last because of convenience and money and people just not wanting to be alone. I don’t think it’s about attraction or love at all really. Love seems to be just a pretext for people being dependent on each other for something else.

Now that we aren't together, both of our lives are much healthier. He is much more involved with the kids, he went back to work and started focusing on bettering himself and he even socializes a lot more.

Here's the problem
Most of you are kissless virgins
The others don't understand that compromise is required, service to one another, and a moral compass that is congruent to some kind of spiritual or religious belief system aligning together. Life isn't all rainbows and unicorns, but you can choose happiness with a partner if you want it.

Men report higher satisfaction in marriages across the board than women.
I have heard your story in college - some guy nearly failing out of college playing 70 hours a week and wondering why his gf isn't happy.
Many folks in breakups love to just dump X and Y on their ex and portray themselves as angels but the truth is normally far more complex and less black and white.

Because society has falsely aimed women toward boosting our GDP when evolution wanted nothing to do with that.

As mentioned above, I was a massive codependent. The fault of the divorce lied mostly with me in that I refused to ask for help despite drowning in responsibilities. So, in his eyes, things were completely fine because I never could figure out how to tell him otherwise.
