I understand the intent of this thread, but it really should not surprise anyone that states where people want lower taxes generally pay lower taxes to the federal government. Also, it’s a lot more complicated than how it was presented. Some factors:

-Federal contracts in states
-Defense industry investment in states
-Subsidies in the agricultural industry (which is it’s own tangled web)
-States vs cities
-Cost of living and correlated income levels
-Age/demographics (including issues in border states related to immigration)
-State deficits and debt
-etc.
