it's currently covered with some sponge, so it's easy to uncover and cover to check progress and see if it changes/bacteria is still active.
big risk of infection with a massive wound like that. He's still running his antibiotics course, not sure how long that will continue.
tonight he will be woken up properly for the first time since his first operation. he's been 'barely' conscious at times in the last 24 hours, where he could just nod a little bit, but was pretty much gone. he's on a ton of painkillers.
my father and other brother will be there, along with his gf. will be interesting to see how he reacts. he's slept basically since wednesday afternoon where he had his first surgery. in reality, other than the original first diagnosis, he will have absolutely no clue what has happened the last 48 hours. He won't remember the two surgeries, the compression chambers, nothing. He'll just wake up with a massive open wound on his leg.
but this is essentially the 'best' outcome considering the disease. 1) is cut off tissue, 2) cut off tissue and muscle, 3) amputation, 4) death.
the most dangerous part appears over. but can't say for sure because it's only when u stop the antibiotics you can tell if the bacteria stopped spreading. but seems to have stopped. risk of infection in the open wound is very present, so we'll see from here.

really weird and surreal experience that you can go from great to death's door in 48 hours. didn't even know about this bacterial infection. absolutely nuts.

Update:
Very much looks like the worst of it is over. Saw a pic of his leg (from my dad's phone) it's the entire inner side of his leg from knee to ankle. All the skin is gone, replaced with a sponge that's draining fluid until they replace the skin. They checked the wound out this evening, havent heard anything yet.
He got out of ICU couple days ago, now he's in another unit, don't remember what it's called. Soon skin grafts will start. Another 3-4 weeks in hospital, then in and out for a few months after.

He got out of ICU couple days ago, now he's in another unit, don't remember what it's called. Soon skin grafts will start. Another 3-4 weeks in hospital, then in and out for a few months after.
