So Reddit, as a business, hasn't made a profit in 20 years but it's valued at 6 billion.

It sounds insane but it’s really not that insane

Imagine you have a business making 100k profit a year. Now you take that 100k and reinvest it into your business… Now you have 0 profit but your business clearly grew and the value of your business is worth more as well. But still no profit because you didn’t make any money technically.

Yes, it is that insane. Because the strategy you're talking about involves making a profit at some point... and reddit has zero plan on getting to profitability.

sure but even if that's true, a company that could make 500 million a year is still worth a ton even if they don't have a goal of being profitable in the short term.

for example, i don't think twitter was ever profitable but elon cut 3/4s of the workforce and they're probably profitable now. just because you choose not to take profits doesn't mean you aren't worth more money
