Not really my thing personally. Never been a Jackson fan. I would go Ibanez if I wanted a guitar like that with a Floyd rose.

I like 22 frets. The other two HH San Dimas models have 24, a Gotoh 510 instead of a Floyd, and that fugly heel-mount truss wheel.
There’s a custom shop version that’s like double the price and it’s not my most favorite movie. But I do like crossroads.

But I like the idea of it being sorta the devils guitar lol

I can’t remember where I read it but I’m pretty sure it’s a limited run with only 250 units being made

I also don't typically go for resolutions but I'm going to hold myself more accountable to playing. I can string together a couple days of consecutive playing but I'm not as regimented with it as I am with, say, lifting. So my goal will be to play as close to daily as possible. Even if that means 15 minutes of practicing scales and chord shapes. I just need to build the habit of playing daily.
For me I think it's the method of learning that's important. I've stuck up scales and modes before and worked to commit them to memory, but I'd much rather learn the application alongside so I know how they work in a practicle sense.

I’m trading in a guitar for it and another stimulus check is rumored to hit, fukk it what have I got to lose

It’ll be a collector’s guitar also so I’m sure it’ll hold its value if I turn out to not like it.

The 80s/90s hotrod guitars been on a comeback for a while. I sold a couple of my kramer's a couple months back faster and for more than I thought I would get. I'm sure the resale on the guitar would stay high in some strange case you didn't like it

The Ibanez Lo-Pro Edge = best Floyd derivative ever made.

A mode is simply an inversion of a scale. Like a triad can be inverted (Root) C-E-G | (1st) E-G-C | (2nd) G-C-E, a mode is a scale starting on a different note. There are plenty of resources that break them down into shapes and patterns all over the neck but it starts withhearingthem. Until you actually hear the difference you'll be running patterns up and down and parroting licks rather than improvising melodically with them.

You're probably already quite comfortable with the sound of major (Ionian) and minor (Aeolian) so that leaves 5 modes. One of them, Locrian, is half-diminished which in my opinion is best reduced to a m7b5 arpeggio (C-Eb-Gb-Bb) — no one composes or extensively improvises with it.So that leaves 4. Two major and two minor — Lydian and Mixolydian, and Dorian and Phrygian. Lydian is major with a #4. Mixolydian is major with a b7 (dominant). Dorian is minor with a natural 6th. Phrygian is minor with a b2. That's it. Making it more complex than that is unnecessarily complicating things.

Of course there are other modes like those built on the melodic and harmonic minor scales but start with the diatonic system.

Repped post this on a guitar forum and you’ll have 20 pages of arguing. My biggest issue with conceptualizing modes is understanding the difference in hearing the quality of each mode and that the key of the song doesn’t change. Or maybe it does idk, it confuses the chit out of me.

But like you said it’s simply taking a one of the 12 diatonic keys and starting a given scale on a different note based on the chord progression. Am I right?

for me, the best way to get a handle on modes is to play over a drone note.

Try E Aeolian - pick the open heavy E string and then play the 7 notes of the mode while it rings. try the 7 fret on A string.

you're trying to hear how each note in the scale sounds over the E note, it'll take a while to familiarize urself with these intervals

It's easy to get bogged down in semantics and pages of people arguing about what is modal, tonal, etc. a list of songs that make use of the various modes and get the sound of them into your head first, starting with music you actually like.

Until you can hear them they won't make a lot of sense and all you're doing is commiting a bunch of shapes and patterns to memory. It's like using words in a sentence because they sound good but not understanding the meaning of those words.

For example Joe Satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream is based entirely onLydianexcept for a brief solo section in Mixolydian. I'll bet Joe used David Gilmour's Mihalis (1978) as the starting point whether he was consciously aware of it or not much like Vai's For the Love of God sounds like a direct rip of the theme from Kung Fu. Anyway I'm off on a tangent here. Start by analyzing music you like that uses modes.

Nice. The new ones are easy to spot because they don't have "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents" stamped on them. As you know Ibanez tried to get around the patent with other designs but ultimately failed. Even blocked as a hardtail it's the most comfortable bridge by a mile.

To get the intonation dialed in the original tool they shipped with or the Ibanez EJK1000 tool is a must. Those saddle locking screws can strip over time especially if you're not using a metric size key but never get them from Ibanez or pay stupid prices for one on ebay. You can get them in bulk made from even harder steel for a few bucks.

I spent a lot of time playing over the holidays and remembered how much fun strumming songs is. I only have one electric which is an all black epiphone dot studio and I never really play it so it's purely acoustic from me. I also got an early 70s Japanese 12 string last week that's been super fun once I set it up. One thing I'm starting to realize is that hardly anyone knows how to set up a guitar properly. Tons of people buy guitars with the intention to learn but never do because they picked up an entry level guitar, which are never set up right, and let it rot in the corner because the mile high action makes it impossible to play. Hell, my father in law has been playing for 50 years in bands and chit and still doesn't know how to adjust a truss rod, polish frets or adjust the saddle on an acoustic. I enjoy doing it so I need to find a way to make some money off of that.

Was gonna ship out my guitar to trade for that Jack Butler sig this morning but another buyer on Reverb offered me nearly full price for my guitar so I went with him instead.

Should I pocket the money or get the JB still? I shipped out the guitar this morning.

Been trying to reach myself how to setup guitars myself with the exception of filing/fretwork and stuff a common setup can be done by anybody with a little patience

That's the killer part. It isn't that hard. First thing to do is check the intonation. If that's fine then you really don't even need to mess with the truss rod just file the bottom of the saddle down till the action is where you like it. Fret filing isn't hard either as long as they don't need to be replaced. You can get fretboard protectors along with files on amazon. That 12 string I got was in pretty rough shape since it was obviously played a good bit and then put up for decades. I filed the frets just a little bit then used some mother's polish and dremel tool on them to clean them up. Restrung it, adjusted the saddle, hit the fretboard with some lemon oil, gave it a good cleaning and it went from looking like trash to looking near mint. It sounds amazing too.

Had some sh!t luck on Christmas night.
The week before we had about 20" on snow dumped on us, but for Christmas it rained and got up to 55°. Needless to say all 20" of that snow melted in a hurry.

After finishing my delicious ham dinner I sat down to relax then realized there was a sound coming from the basement. Ran down there and found that my sump pump had croaked and there was 4" of standing water on the floor. I have a big finished room that's essentially my man cave down there. All my guitars were lined up on the floor in their cases along withmy smaller combo amps..

my playstation 3 & 4, receiver for surround sound, powered sub, and entire pedal board were submerged. Fuk

most of the guitars only got a little damp because the cases were upright. My 12 string acoustic and tele were laying flat so they both got soaked. I'm really worried about the acoustic because it got fully submerged.

I think the amps are ok due to the electronics being up higher (plus my big marshall was ontop of the 4x12 so it's fine), but all my pedals are smoked

FUKKKKK! That is horrible. Your homeowners insurance will cover up to 2k for musical instruments even if you don't have them scheduled and unless they are vintage or have sentimental value I'd go ahead and file the claim

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

That is some terrible luck, dude. Damn. Hopefully your 12 string makes it. So are you going to remake your pedal collection or are you just gonna say fuk it?
