Nah chino doing multi leg options. Article just talks about spreads (2 legs)

Really good article btw. Repped

Easy ****ing pictures of you dont get spreads. Max risk, max profit, and probability.

Robinhood’s business model is smart af. Capitalize on the stick-it-to-the-fat-cats sentiment by naming your zero-fee trading platform after a character that steals from the rich and gives to the poor while generating revenue through strategies surely almost none of the users will ever understand

Whoever came up with this, combination of trading knowledge and playing on emotion, is a bit of an evil genius

speaking of which, updated my TSLA play in the options thread, but for those too lazy to check it out, here we go

Spoiler!
Closed out one of the legs on my TSLA play:

$800cc/$800csp/$900csp

Closed out the CC for a $9k loss. If I closed everything out right now, I would be at +$15k, but have a feeling we will see it go higher leading up to tomorrow. Aiming to close out at $18k

To make things extra spicy, I opened $920csp 1/29. Why you ask? Putting in an offer on a house today, and it will move quick af if I get accepted. If it gets called away at $920, with the premium I will have gone 3.5x on my position, and that feels like as good of a time to walk away as any. If it doesn't get called away, that's $5400 in premiums for the week.

What do you do if one of your covered calls goes well beyond strike? My PLTR 2/19 $30 strike got destroyed today, since PLTR shot up all the way to $39. I ended up buying to close and didn't really seem to lose much money at all. "Sell to open" price for 10 contracts was around $1.75, "Buy to close" price was about $10.19.

Don't think so. I closed that call when PLTR was about $38 (I had 1000 shares). If it remained at $38 on expiration (which is possible), I would've lost the $8000 ($38-$30 * 1000) from my shares, but kept my premium ($1750). By closing the call, I lost the premium but kept my $8000 from shares (which was negated by having to close the call.. hmm).

Had I not done a covered call, I would've seen that $8k of profit in my account.

By doing the covered call, if I had kept it to expiration I would've lost any profit beyond $30 but kept the premium.

By closing the covered call, I lost profit until $38 and the premium, but gained any profit beyond $38.

Yea, pretty sure I broke even. In hindsight I would've been better off not even selling the CC.. that way I would've been able to keep the profit from $30 to $38.

What do you mean? My cost basis was under $30 to begin with so I'm happy I saw any profit to begin with, been holding PLTR for a month now trying to break even

Yes. But you just realized an $8.5k loss on those covered calls. You don't see it because your shares went up and balanced it out. It isn't exactly 1:1, but if shares drop tomorrow you start sort of realizing those losses in terms of your portfolio valuation.

What if I had unloaded my shares for a profit after I closed the call? I believe I closed the call around $37 and sold my shares at $38.

Waiting for a lower price to buy back in tonight or tomorrow.

Then you are good fella! obviously what you did is correct when expecting shares to keep going up. I did the same with covered calls I wrote for CCIV. I ended up closing them literally 45 seconds later for a $100 loss

First of all, holy fuk, you just took a 8.4k loss...

As for me? Hypothetically or actually?

Hypothetically, you could/should roll up/out (meaning pick the next month(s) out and a higher strike), to where you break even on your close out and reopening, or higher ideally.

Me? I was tempted to buy the shares at a lower/equal price to my strike (capital intensive ofc), but it quickly blew past that price point with my TSLA play. I then was going to wait and see if the froth would die down, but it didn't. So I opened puts along the way that would bring my cost basis at or below the call strike so they could "Wash out" eachother.

The amount of chit happening in this market right now lol

Comments in every CNBC Marketplace video I'm watching today are flooded with Redditors patting each other on the backs for what they're doing with Gamestop etc and how they think they're taking so much money from the 1%ers

Haven't been in this for long but it feels like a strong "Be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy" moment here
