Give me this over DT's vocals any day.

Got it — it's the amp version. Glad you found a setup that's working for you. Same question applies. Have you tried going direct out with cabinet simulation for recording?

No, I have no recording set-up anymore except for a loop pedal that has a couple of tracks. I can add some basic drums beats, record some passages loop it and play back myself. But I don't even use that pedal anymore.

I had a some motivation a few years ago to sort of set something up for youtube–you probably can recall–but that's dead in the water.

Labrie's vocals are worse that nails grinding on a chalk board now. I think they started to down tune their songs too?

Not going to lie, I wasn't really taken back by LTE's third album. There are some good moments but they seemed to rehash a lot of structure they did in the past. I think it was a more mellow album, but it just for me lacked those few songs that had memorable hooks. Acid Raid, Universal Mind etc I can hum the hooks. Third album seemed to feel like it was all the same tempo/structure for every song, like a full improve jam. Which still doesn't make it bad, but the first two albums for me were much better.

Guitar bros…

Have played for 30 years (old misc) and looking to get back into it and buy an electric. Got rid of all my old ones except a nice Taylor acoustic. Looking at what I consider decent guitars but not nice just for hobby playing.

I am comfortable with an LP or SG studio/tribute type guitar. Have owned many a Gibson.

Point of post is wondering if anyone has experience with the lower end PRS SE guitars? Back in the day played many higher end PRS guitars and was blown away but wondering if anyone has played the cheaper versions and your thoughts verse cheaper Gibsons.

Thanks!

You're right but you can probably chalk that up to a lack of playing together and if you ask me skinny 90s Ibanez Petrucci was melodically a more interesting player than today's lumberjack version.

Was never going to win that battle.

However he was 40 when he gave up and shaved his dome. Lot of guys in their 20s say stuff like "didn't know Joe had hair LOL" when they see old photos completely in denial about what the Reaper will soon collect from their own thatch.

Stitches are coming out of my finger in the next couple of days so hopefully I'll be able to play again. Luckily there isn't any numbness on the underside only on the top and side of it. I'm hoping that the feeling all comes back but even if it doesn't it shouldn't effect my playing with where it is

His picking technique was never an issue for me. Sense of melody, songwriting, and rock solid intonation on bends and vibrato made up for it.

Scary. The local artist who painted all that stuff for him, the late Donnie Hunt, hand painted around 300 Ibanez JS3 guitars which are worth big bucks today.

I didn't know that.

There was a big 'music theory' or 'recording' originals thread too….IIRC.
I guess that one didn't make the transfer.

after 2+ years of looking, I decided to give up looking for an EBMM JP in my favorite color… instead, since my black one has a few dings anyways, I figured I might as well refinish and save a couple of thousand bucks. contacted a local shop with ex-Larrivee workers and they'll do a green sparkle finish for $550. Sounds about right for a professional job?

What's been up brehs? Haven't played in like 6months+ lol, moved to another country and just kind of stopped playing and writing.. However, recently got the itch again and bought a new guitar. Tried a chitload of them, was gonna go with the Schecter nick Johnston sig (the cheaper one) which was amazing.. Then dude told me to try these, brand I never heard of from Canada called Godin.. Played and legit within 5 seconds I was like u wot m8?? wtf is this magic.. and got it.. Didn't even google them or anything before buying which was a bit stupid but I don't regret the decision..Also got a cheap epiphone classical guitar..

Picked up a standard yamaha acoustic to learn to play on. Zero experience before this, using Yourguitaracademy.com and youtube videos atm.

C chord is driving me crazy boyos. I swear to fuk my ring finger bends differently, I can't get it to look anything like people have on videos. When I bend my ring finger it curves towards my middle finger which seems completely different than everyone is showing me in videos.

Ah well, currently just learning to switch between a couple chords. Long fuking road ahead of me.

Don't matter what it looks like if you can fret all the notes cleanly. Sound s like maybe a thumb placement issue. Keep trying

Congrats. In the good old days that's how it was done. You picked up a guitar, played it, and if you liked it you bought it. Not being influenced by online reviews with a lot of shills. Here are the specs . They also built a blue one with a maple neck . Both are made of basswood in Canada.

Ye, maybe it's the brand.. I would never in a million years buy some random Canadian brand I've never heard of had I not tried it.. Also first time I've seen it sold in any store

Godin's are interesting. I think they might be related to the Seagull line of acoustic guitars which are also a great Canadian company. I'm actually thinking of trying to downsize my guitar collection and sell everything except for the Charvel but I'm not sure I can get over some of the sentimental attachment I have to some of the guitars.

I quit playing again for awhile to but just recently have been picking it up again. Right now I'm trying to learn how to actually play Far Beyond the Sun but tbh it might be beyond my ability to really sound convincing, those licks never really seem to sound as fluid coming from my hands.

Godins are very nice guitars for the price even new, their budget models are no-frills but good players. Technically your guitar is MIA - it was built in New Hampshire, then assembled in Quebec. And it's still cheaper than an entry level MIM Fender lol.

I'm sentimental as **** towards my guitars as well.. Would never sell any unless I absolutely need the money for something very important, would be last resort..

How are your skills after you picked it up again? Rusty or got back into it fast? I feel like for writing my brain got refreshed and I got all these ideas but my fingers are chit and can't keep up, usually when I take a break it takes like 2 weeks to get back and then I make crazy gains.. I always level up to new heights in the following months of taking long breaks

For anyone that is a more casual player ('m not looking to bust massive solos) how often/how long do you practice?

Any Practice habit advice?

Any tips for chord switching? I'm working on a very simple progression right now. Am > D > Em.
I have the finger placement memorized, but switching between them on beat just seems hopeless, particularly Am > D, like god damn my fingers just don't do it.. I know eventually with time I'm gonna get it, but it's discouraging sometimes. Any tips that helped you bros out?

What's interesting is my friend is also trying to learn guitar, and his problem is strumming patterns, which I have zero issue with. Like when he switches chords he fuks up his pattern, where as I keep the pattern fine but fuk up the finger placement on the chord or simply don't move fast enough.

I don't really do a lot of dedicated practice. I took private lessons for awhile that got me to the point where realistically I can learn any song I want. I just find it's a matter of sitting down and grinding it out. Solos in particular I just look up a lesson video or some tab and go to town. I try to use my ears when possible also.
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Chord changes are nothing but practice, LOTS of it. Took me weeks of practicing 15-20 minutes every day just to switch between open shapes without taking too long. It's something you automatically work on when you learn nearly any song though, so once you have the basics down and keep learning other things you will only get better at it.

Imo switching chords on beat and barring chords are the litmus tests of whether you'll enjoy learning guitar… if you can tough it out to nail these, you're good to learn most other guitar techniques.

Yeah I'm still on the fence about selling them, but I want to minimalize in general. I have a lot of stuff I don't really use.
My skills are okay atm, not up to where they were but relatively solid. I think my tone has improved due to less ear fatigue.
Here's a vid of another one of my chitty attempts at eruption. It's just okay and I totally run out of juice again during the tapping section - one of the things EVH was able to do among the many things he was able to do was play tons of muscular stamina. By the time I get to that part of the piece it's really hard for me to tap that part with good tone and speed for that long a period of time - although my string gauge/tension might also be at play here.

You got any vids of your recent compositions?
