if you took a 90s mustang , sure you could make some progress. or a modern mustang and put a turbo on the v8, sure. but 90s mustangs are slow as fuck and a turbo is expensive.
A EV just gets to speed fast, you do get some G-forces and such, but it's about as exciting as fast drying paint. It's like this, you can cook things easily, cleanly, and quickly with a microwave but nothing beats a BBQ especially over a campfire. A light, V8 car is a blast to drive all of the time.

LOL yeah the old five oh's were five slow. I had a Ford Escort GT and when it got totalled I got my 1990 5.0 hatch. Did lots of tune up stuff to get it optimized, advanced timing, all of that, felt faster and I was so dissapointed when I went to the track and ran a best of 10.5 in the 1/8th mile and my Escort ran 10.3 consistant and even 10.1 a few times. (My escort had a lot of bolt on mods) I did the "thumper" ported E7's, long tubes, edelbrock intake, H pipe with no cats, and a 3.73 gear and knocked that time down to the mid 8's. Engine went out and I got carried away going all out on a rebuild that bankrupted me and I just sold the parts. Then I got a good deal on a 88 5.0, bone stock speed density with the AOD slushbox automatic POS. I did a lot of weight reduction, down to full suspension, K-member, all of that but left the drivetrain bone stock except no cat H pipe and a K&N air filter and deleted Power Steering, AC, crown vic water pump so it spun the other way, just had a single underdrive pulley, running 8.2 at over 90mph in the 1/8th which is the 12.8 in the 1/4. I did put the axle assembly from my old car in there so I did have the 3.73 modified carrier. I still had a lot of the parts from my old 5.0 including that transmission. Life gets busy and other things take priority and I sold it all. I realized how much of a money pit cars are.

Thanks for the mention, I don't think I have even thought about that era of my life in a long time.

I've driven Teslas with the red line under the name, and the ones' with ludicris mode, yeah they are fun, but I'm also a Nissan GT-R certified tech, and the the feeling of letting loose on one of those even if it's the same speed is 10x as much of a blast. Worked on the owner of the company's GTR, about mid 700hp range that I think would handle any tesla except maybe the plaid and that car is straight up scary.

here's a guy who knows his stuff

Despite me hating on Peter I agree with all that about ICE cars are more fun to drive and its why Im also hating on EVs. I actually went with a v8 for my current car.

I'm just laughing at Peter thinking he can throw some cheap mods on his mustang and make it quicker than a performance Tesla that OP is after.

Maybe on a racetrack since they probably handle better? A performance Tesla is just so quick at the start and driving around the city at stoplights and whatnot they are blowing the doors off almost any mustang

also even with all that shit you are still slower than a tesla

you went from talking about a few "relatively inexpensive" upgrades like headers, to now you're full supercharging the car (which is 10k+, not inexpensive by any measure)

and btw, even supercharged you're still maybe slower to 60 than a performance Tesla, definitely slower to 30.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds (using a 1-foot rollout). In real-world and independent track testing, it frequently achieves standing starts of 2.8 to 3.0 seconds, easily making it one of the quickest cars for under $60,000. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

A supercharged 2026 Mustang can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.88 seconds. Performance varies slightly depending on which aftermarket supercharger or track package you go with

The current Tesla Model S Plaid achieves a 0 to 60 mph time of 1.99 seconds using its Cheetah Stance launch control. Older, discontinued "Performance" trim levels (like the P100D) clock in at 2.3 to 2.4 seconds.

The electric instant torque of the 2026 Tesla Model 3 Performance allows it to sprint from 0 to 30 mph in roughly 1.1 to 1.3 seconds. In contrast, a supercharged 2026 Mustang relies on internal combustion and transmission gearing, meaning its 0 to 30 mph time sits slightly behind at around 1.4 to 1.7 seconds. [1, 2, 3, 4]

700 horsepower?

That's like a Dodge Hellcat or Dodge Demon

Thanks but I did know my stuff back in the day buy no lie, it's been a while. You're right, it's going to take a lot of work to make a mustang that fast. Reliability is going to suffer as well as parts are under greater stress.
