Trades pay well. Own your own company and you can certainly become a multi millionaire.
I know roofing laborers pulling 80k a year and the owner of the company is worth well over 5 million.
My old man started a steel erection company at 25. Erecting pre engineered commercial steel buildings like warehouses and factorys. Hes 60 now and worth tens of millions.
Tradesmen are generally alpha as **** as well so i dont see some stem nerd banging their wife. Quite the contrary. Lots of these bored housewives arent satisfied by a man without callouses on his hands.

I don't get the skewed vision of some people when it comes to lifstyle choices. Not everyone wants to sit in an office or cubicle all day. And not every trade is carrying bags of concrete or wheel barrows full of dirt by some subhuman. The roads you drive on, the buildings you work in, even the traffic lights you sit at, are all complex systems that people have to install, bulid and maintain.
I work in the performance/racing auto industry. Not quite a six figure job, but I love what I do. We build cars for people with disposable income and half of our customers are in some sort of trade or own a HVAC, plumbing, or electric/utilities business. Some of which are multi millionaires with a high school degree.

My Father made a great life through his construction business OP. He got his contractor license at about 20 years old, by 25 he purchased a brand new home in a rich suburb and by 28 had a Ferrari . He barely had to get his hands dirty once he found good help. He’s not book smart and barely knows how to even use a computer but he knows how to make a buck and made great investments. He and my mom are living good now in there early 50s. Multiple Homes (no mortgages), Vacation properties, car collection, etc. If sitting behind a desk all day staring at a computer and scoffing down doughnuts is your thing, that’s fine but it’s not going to land you the life you apparently think it will, and your back is going to be f***** from that chair. The fact that you even started this thread shows that you will probably amount to be a nothing

Honestly... Trade work is, for me, massively satisfying. I am a Mech Eng, but I could easily see myself doing something that requires hands on tools all day long. There is nothing quite as satisfying as putting mental effort into a good design, and then using what raw materials are available, brawn, and ingenuity to manufacture and assemble said item.
Its a creative outlet that I cannot compare with anything else in my life really... To take something raw and turn it into something beautiful (and there is beauty in practicality also)
That said, mechanical engineers are basically tradies anyway (or so the misc seems to believe 😁)

- Tradies are always in demand
- You become your own boss. All you need are your tools, truck, skills and the marketing skills to grow your customer base and reputation
- You aren't an office slave that produced no tangible results
- You won't get fired when your boss is insecure about you, or your employer is restructuring out costs and inefficiencies
- Your work is appreciated and tangible
- You have more time to spend with your family
- You can Misc more
There's always pros and cons. Of course one could say professionals earn more, but this is not always the case. Professional jobs are extremely competitive and the job market has not been good for many many years - look at all the grads who remain unemployed or underemployed.
